Salary: Circa £14,500 - £18,000 per annum, pro rata



About the role

The British Red Cross are looking for an enthusiastic and reliable individual to join our Independent Living Team as a Health Care Support Worker. This role will suit someone who has a good understanding of issues relating to the care and support of vulnerable people preferably in a domiciliary care setting.

As a Service Support Worker you will provide personal care, practical and emotional support to vulnerable persons within Neath Port Talbot are who are identified as requiring support in order to remain in their own home and avoid the potential for unnecessary hospital admission. The post holder will deliver services in partnership with other agencies and other health care professionals working closely with the Gateway Rapid Response and Community Resource Teams to ensure clinical governance and continuity of care. In addition you will support and direct as necessary the activities of volunteers who are deployed to provide the lower level support assessed as needed by some of the newly discharged patients. The post holder will work 28 hours; i.e. 4 X 7 hour shifts to be agreed Mon-Fri (Shifts will be between 9am & 5pm), however, evening and weekend cover on a rota basis may be required in line with future service development.


About the team

The role of Health Care Support Worker sits within the Independent Living directorate. Our independent living services provide valuable time-limited care and support to vulnerable people across the UK, helping them live independently in their own homes.


About the person
To succeed and excel in this role you must have following skills and experience:

  • Good standard of education - GCSE/O level
  • NVQ level 3 in health and social care or willingness to undertake QCF level 3
  • 2 years experience of working within community based health and social care Statutory or voluntary sector service
  • Ability to work alone without direct supervision and as part of a team
  • Understanding of and the ability to maintain confidentiality
  • Able to work and travel throughout the area served by the scheme as appropriate to the needs of the job
  • Full driving licence and access to a vehicle



Closing date for applications is 23.59 on the 5th of October. Interviews will be held across two dates; early applicant interviews will be held on the 28th of September with the remaining interviews being held on the 12th of October.
