The British Heart Foundation (BHF) is the nation's heart charity and the UK's biggest funder of research into heart and circulatory diseases. With an active research portfolio of around £440m, the Research Engagement Officer plays a vital role in bringing this life saving work to life in engaging ways to all of our audiences.

We are looking for a passionate and energetic science communicator, to spearhead the growth of our lab visit programme. Currently the team organises around 50 lab visits for staff, volunteers and supporters every year. However, with the help of a new member of the team, we're confident we can improve the quality and impact of these visits and make them more readily available to more staff, volunteers and supporters.

The BHF has a small Research Engagement team working across a wide portfolio of work. This role will help support across this activity, helping to keep our researchers engaged, the public inspired and our staff informed. This will require the person to quickly build strong relationships with the BHF-funded research community and a number of internal teams who rely on concise and simple information about their research.


About you

With a background in biological or medical sciences, you will have a keen interest and be passionate about research in this area. You will possess excellent communication skills being able to comfortably engage, BHF-funded researchers, the public our staff and volunteers at all levels both verbally and written. The successful candidate will be a proactive networker who is able to quickly build relationships with internal and external stakeholders.You will have robust organisational skills with the ability to manage and lead projects that inspire greater support for our work. You will also have a creative approach when investigating new ways of bringing work that happens in our labs to life, and ensuring this work is properly evaluated.
