About Us

Sported is a leading charity supporting the UK's largest network of sport and physical activity groups and we exist to provide the skills, resources and funding needed for them to become sustainable and deliver services to the young people and communities they serve.

It has never been a harder time to be a young person growing up in the UK. Poverty, crime and mental health issues coupled with youth unemployment and COVID-19, have compounded already disadvantaged communities and individuals and widened inequalities.

We support the thousands of community sports groups that seek to remove barriers from young people’s lives to allow them to thrive against the odds.

We’re now looking for a Trustee to join our team on a part-time basis, attending our quarterly meetings for at least one term of three years.

If you’re passionate about driving social change through sport, this is an incredible opportunity to play a pivotal role in our leading organisation.

Your strategic guidance will help transform lives, and you'll be able to empower disadvantaged communities through sport at the highest levels of the organisation.

This is also a unique opportunity to develop your philanthropic portfolio while contributing to a more active, engaged, and socially just world.

The Role

As a Trustee, you will take on a voluntary position as part of our Board, providing governance to our charity and ensuring we are delivering against our mission.

Attending quarterly meetings to help us achieve our goals, you will act as a member of our Board to drive us forward with new development strategies.

Ensuring compliance, you will focus on the pursuit of charitable objectives and evaluate our performance against our targets, ensuring our financial stability and safeguarding our great name!

You will also manage our property, protect our investment funds and support the Chair and NomC with appointment and appraisals as necessary.

About You

To be considered as a Trustee, you will need:

- The ability to work with others at leadership level
- An understanding of financial and numerical information
- To be passionate about using sport for social change

The closing date for this role is 3rd December 2024 - To apply for this role please submit the following documents to Rebecca Mills, Chair of Nominations Committee, contact details can be found on our website.

- CV
- Covering letter explaining your motivations, relevant professional and lived experiences

Other organisations may call this role Board Member, Charity Trustee, Director, Charity Director, Member of the Board, or Voluntary Trustee.

Company

Sported was established by Sir Keith Mills, who was inspired by the commitment made in Britain’s Olympic bid to use the London 2012 Olympic Games to improve the lives of disadvantaged young people in the UK.

Sported supports community and voluntary sector organisations that use sport as a vehicle for personal and community development, rather than those which promote particular sports or look for elite players. These projects do not form part of the school or club structure and range from third sector organisations to community based groups and inspirational individuals.

Sported aims to bring together as many members as possible under the ‘sport for development’ umbrella, giving community sports organisations the opportunity to be part of something national, recognisable and credible.

Through capacity building services, a volunteer mentor programme, project funding and other be-spoke member services, Sported provides operational and financial resources to their members, helping them to build their business expertise and sustainability.  Sported has 12 offices around the UK’s nations and regions, and is a UK registered charity governed by a Board of 10 Trustees.
