Commission Assistant
London SE1 (Hybrid)

About Us

Local Trust was established in 2012 to deliver Big Local, a National Lottery Community Fund programme which committed £1 million each to 150 areas across England. We believe in empowering communities by placing resources, decision-making, and long-term funding directly in the hands of local residents. Our focus is on building better places to live through resident-led initiatives and by fostering a transformation in the way policy-makers and funders engage with communities.

The Commission on Neighbourhoods is our latest initiative, aimed at exploring future policy for disadvantaged neighbourhoods. We will gather evidence, engage stakeholders, and provide policy recommendations to drive meaningful, community-led change.

We are now looking for a Commission Assistant to join us on a full-time, fixed-term basis until March 2026, working 36 hours per week.

The Benefits

- Salary between £26,000 – £29,000 pro rata
- Pension scheme with an employer contribution of 10%
- 25 days’ annual leave plus public holidays, with three additional days during office closure over Christmas and New Year
- Interest-free travel season ticket loan
- Development opportunities and time off for volunteering

This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced, highly organised individual to support a pivotal new initiative, working directly with experienced leaders and contributing to community-focused change.

With our support, you will have the chance to advance your career through gaining practical experience, allowing you to prefect your craft in the process.

What’s more, you will discover the flexibility of hybrid working, which will enable you to work within your own comfort, keeping you motivated and inspired.

So, if you believe you’re a perfect fit for this role, read on and apply today!

The Role

As the Commission Assistant, you will provide crucial support to ensure the smooth running of the Commission’s activities.

Specifically, you will work closely with the Head of Secretariat, organising and co-ordinating meetings, evidence sessions, and advisory group activities.

Furthermore, you will also manage communications, update social media, and maintain documentation for the Commission.

Your role will also involve:

- Organising Commission meetings, including scheduling, circulating papers, and minute-taking
- Planning logistics for evidence sessions, such as booking venues and catering
- Assisting with publication design, proofing, and distribution
- Supporting the development of systems for contact management and evidence logging
- Conducting small research and analysis tasks for the Head of Policy Analysis

About You

To be considered as the Commission Assistant, you will need:

- At least two years of relevant experience
- Demonstrable experience in organising meetings and events
- Strong organisational skills and experience in setting up and managing systems
- Attention to detail and a commitment to Equality, Diversity, and Inclusion (EDI)
- A degree or equivalent experience

The closing date for this role is the 13th of November 2024.

Other organisations may call this role Administrative Co-ordinator, Project Support Assistant, Administrator, Secretary, Office Administrator, Administrative Assistant, or Programme Support Officer.
