Job Details

A member of the Board of Trustees with a part time Research Lead role.

As a Trustee you’ll

  • Ensure we continue to operate within our charitable remit (the advancement of health and the prevention of sickness)
  • Review and approve our Annual Report and Accounts
  • Support and provide advice on our work
  • Attend (virtual) Board meetings

As a Research Lead you’ll use your experience of research projects to lead a small team of volunteer researchers, usually aiming to holistically review published research to identify:

  • The root causes of a potentially preventable health issue.
  • Which approaches internationally are most effective in reducing the health risks..
  • How these approaches could be adopted or adapted in the UK, including any existing policy or practice which could be built on and which key stakeholders need to be engaged.
  • Any potential for associated primary research with university partners.

As this is a voluntary role you will only need to lead one research project at any one time.

Person Specification

As a Trustee

  • Enthusiasm for our guiding principle that prevention is better than cure and our belief that health in the UK should be more than a postcode lottery.
  • Ability to exercise good, independent judgement and work effectively as a board member.
  • Willingness to bring energy, expertise and commitment to the role, and potentially broaden the diversity of thinking on our board.
  • Commitment to Nolan’s seven principles of public life: selflessness, integrity, objectivity, accountability, openness, honesty and leadership.

As a Research Lead

  • A postgraduate health-related qualification
  • At least 3 years’ professional experience of leading, coordinating or project managing health-related research teams in the UK
  • Health-related publications
  • A commitment to evidence-based research
  • Good organisational skills and the ability to lead and motivate graduate researchers with diverse backgrounds and experience.

Experience of securing research funding or working in a think tank or a health policy role would be an added recommendation.

If you meet this specification and are able and willing to commit 5 -10 hours per week, we look forward to hearing from you.
