Start Date: 21st October

Location: Walkden, Worsley, Manchester M28 7JB

The Role

As a Mentor, you’ll support pupils at Co-Op Walkden Academy by acting as a positive role model and mentor. Your role involves helping students engage in learning, boosting their confidence, and improving behaviour both in and outside the classroom. You’ll also help run breakfast, lunch, and after-school clubs.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • 1-to-1 mentoring and small group support
  • Running breakfast, lunch, and after-school clubs
  • Assisting teachers in the classroom
  • Supporting extracurricular activities and school events

Leadership Development Programme

In addition to your work in school, you’ll take part in a Leadership Development Programme. This includes tailored professional development workshops and the opportunity to gain an accredited qualification. You’ll also receive training on leadership, communication, and employability skills that will set you up for success in your future career. Volunteers often go on to careers in education, social work, law enforcement, and many other fields.

This is a full-time position, Monday to Friday, during term time. Living expenses and travel costs will be reimbursed.

Please note, we have limited spots available for this role.

What You'll Get

  • Living expenses of £115 per week plus travel reimbursement
  • A red programme jacket
  • Access to professional mentoring and accredited leadership courses

Please note that is takes up to 20 minutes to apply for the programme, so allow yourself enough time to complete the process.

Requirements

This role is full-time, Monday to Friday, during school term time. A typical school day runs from 8:00am to around 4:00pm, with an hour for lunch (this may vary depending on the school’s schedule). You’ll need to pass a Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check and provide satisfactory references.

About the Organisation

Join a youth and education charity that empowers young adults to tackle educational inequality by volunteering full-time in schools. This mission is twofold:

To give every pupil the chance to succeed, by coaching those furthest from opportunity to achieve the social, emotional, and academic results they need.

To harness the talent and idealism of young people to drive social change in education while developing leadership skills for their future careers.

Since 2009, over 1,500 young people have volunteered with the organisation, making a difference in the lives of more than 15,000 pupils. Many of the alumni go on to work in education or pursue careers in a wide range of fields, from social work to business, engineering, and even starting their own ventures.

If you’re passionate about making a difference and developing your leadership potential, we want you to join the team. Start your journey, give a year, and #BeTheChange.
