An exciting opportunity to join the Board of a well-established, well respected not for profit organisation located in the city of Colchester.

 

Balkerne Gardens Trust offers a complete pathway of support and care, from our Care at Home service, affordable sheltered housing through to residential and nursing care to older people in the local community.

 

Our aim is to provide unrivalled individualised support and care, tailored to suit the needs of every person, delivered by a team of dedicated and well-trained nursing, care and support staff in modern, comfortable facilities.

 

Trustee Role: Purpose

 

This is a voluntary role.

 

Trustees play a unique role in the delivery of the Trust’s core objectives and are collectively responsible for the governance of the organisation and for all Board decisions.

 

The Board sets the strategic direction for the organisation, ensuring alignment to the Trust values, and is responsible for setting organisational policy, defining targets, agreeing the financial plan, evaluating performance, and ensuring that strong relationships are maintained between the Trustees and the Senior Leadership Team.

 

Key Accountabilities:

 

  • Act in the Trusts best interests, ensuring it complies with its governance responsibilities and any other relevant legislation and regulations.
  • Ensure effective management of resources and risk.
  • Provide support and constructive challenge to the Chief Executive and Senior Leadership Team to ensure the delivery of Trust objectives. Bring professional expertise and personal experience to the Board.

Time Commitment:

 

  • The Board generally holds meetings on the last Monday of every month, 10 times a year. These normally take place in the early evening and last approximately 1 – 1.5 hours. Most meetings happen face to face at our central location in the city of Colchester. Trustees also support the Trust events as part of their ambassadorial role as well as making make some visits to its services.  A minimum of a 3 year term commitment would be expected from Trustees.
