Post: Head of Fundraising
Reports to: Commercial Director
Reporting into: Events Lead, Community Lead, Supporter Lead
Salary: £60,000
Aims of Post: To deliver the fundraising strategy for the Mountbatten Group, leading both the Hampshire and Isle of Wight fundraising teams.
Key Tasks:
- To raise the strategic annual fundraising income targets for the group and operate within the agreed expenditure budget, fundraising governance and compliance regulations.
- To manage, adapt and improve the fundraising strategy, to always have a 3 years forward viewpoint, to promote income growth and utilisation of new, developing and traditional fundraising activities.
- To lead, manage and motivate the fundraising staff and volunteers using a supportive management style in order to create optimum levels of performance and an environment in which staff feel valued and cared for and can deliver against clear objectives.
- To ensure that the fundraising staff and volunteers operate and are trained appropriately in order that high standards of performance, data management and supporter experience are delivered.
- To ensure quarterly tactical fundraising plans are in place and focused on the strategic objectives and KPI’s.
Secondary tasks:
- To promote and communicate fundraising activities to all hospice staff, working closely with the communications and retail teams especially to work together on marketing activities.
- To investigate and develop efficiencies and new fundraising initiatives for the group.
- To report to and liaise regularly with Director and SMT on fundraisers matters, performance, risks, insights and strategic developments.
- To attend and represent fundraising in group wide meetings and committees, positively promoting cross working with all internal and external teams.
- To role model and work within the agreed values and behaviours of the hospice group.
- To ensure that the fundraising database is managed, updated and used in the most efficient manner to enhance the acquisition, upgrading and retention activities within the supporter experience.
- To lead and develop relationships with high level supporters, trusts, major donors and corporate partners.
- To liaise with the Head of Communications to ensure fundraising events and activities are given maximum exposure through press, PR and social media opportunities and to ensure that connections made are engaging
- To handle any complaints or concerns that may arise through fundraising/income generation activities which cannot be resolved by the Lead roles.
- To ensure that accurate records of fundraising/income generation activities, including income, are recorded, monitored and reviewed.
- To be responsible for monthly updates and reports on income and expenditure both to the SMT and the relevant Board Committees.
- To ensure that all fundraising activities adhere to legal requirements and to hospice standards and policies
- To undertake any other reasonable tasks as may be requested from time to time.
Qualifications and knowledge
- Educated to degree level or equivalent appropriate experience.
- Knowledge of all forms of charity fundraising legislation, regulator codes of practice and other relevant legislation and guidance.
- Managerial and fundraising qualifications obtained through recognised bodies.
Skills and Experience
- Demonstrable significant fundraising experience with proven ability to deliver to time and budget.
- Demonstrable track record of motivating individuals and team to raise money for a charitable organisation, ideally hospice/hospital focused.
- Demonstrate significant line management and leadership responsibility including management and motivation of a team to achieve challenging targets.
- Experience of managing geographically spread teams.
- Experience of financial and budget management, reforecasting and business case creation.
- Able to generate new ideas and lead staff through change positively and with empathy.
- Able to think strategically, with experience of strategic design and development, plus ability to translate into tactical annual and quarterly business plans.
- Highly motivated self - starter with the commitment and drive to succeed and meet targets.
- Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to form and nurture long lasting relationships.
- An experienced presenter and promoter with an ability to interact with a variety of audiences and audience size, including media skills.
- Excellent communication skills at all levels with the ability to influence and persuade
- Able to demonstrate innovative and creative skill sets.
- Excellent written, verbal and IT communication skills.
- Strong organisation skills and the ability to prioritise and manage time effectively.
- Proven ability to work under pressure and on a range of projects simultaneously.
- A natural networker, comfortable and confident acting as an Mountbatten ambassador to generate engagement and income.
- Experience of working with databases (ideally Raisers Edge) to utilise the full range of data management capabilities to enhance the supporter journey.

- Courteous, respectful and confident manner with a positive and enthusiastic approach, demonstrating sound experience of fundraising.

- A willingness to embrace the need to travel weekly to meet teams and conduct evening, weekend and unsocial hours of work to attend meetings and events as required.
- The post is subject to a DBS check
- Recognition of the need to work primarily in the Hampshire fundraising office to be focused on the priority and targeted growth need there.
