Following a merger between St Barnabas Hospices (incorporating St Barnabas House and Chestnut Tree House) and Martlets, we are now the largest group of hospices in Sussex and one of the largest in the UK. We are committed to providing exceptional and compassionate care to adults, children and their families across Sussex.
As part of our plans, we have undertaken a strategic restructure of the Fundraising and Communications teams and are recruiting to a number of new roles. These roles work across all three hospices and will play a fundamental part as we build and develop our new team.
The Legacy and In Memory Manager role is a vital one within our Philanthropy team focusing on marketing and stewarding legacies along with stewarding In Memory donors, playing a crucial part in advancing the work of the hospices. The postholder will lead the Legacy engagement programme, working closely with the Legacy Administration Manager to ensure a robust and effective marketing campaign to promote legacy giving from an internal and external perspective.
They will also be responsible for stewarding those who pledge a legacy to the hospices, working closely with the Major Gifts team. The postholder will also be responsible for the supporter journey for those who support the hospices with In Memory donations. They will work closely with Supporter Care team who will provide In Memory administration, to ensure that all donors are appropriately thanked and stewarded. An important part of this role is ensuring an excellent and supportive experience aimed at inspiring donors to maximise the value of their gift and engage with other fundraising products in their continued support of the hospices. Building and managing strong relationships with a diverse range of supporters is essential to the success of this role.
What you’ll do:
- Liaising with other fundraising teams, develop and deliver a cross-organisational legacy engagement/marketing strategy for the hospices which will grow our pledge rates and ultimately our future income
- Develop and deliver an In Memory engagement/marketing strategy to engage fundraising teams across all hospices to deliver best practice for our supporter journeys with donors, their families and other audiences including funeral directors
- Work with the Hospice UK national legacy campaign to integrate it into plans for legacy marketing more locally
- Identify new routes, channels & audiences to promote activities and products amongst existing contacts and new prospects
- Develop a programme of legacy and In memory events to both promote the importance of these streams and to steward existing legacy pledgers and In Memory supporters
- Take responsibility for ensuring that all communications are consistent with the St Barnabas Hospices brand and messaging
Supporter Journeys and Stewardship
- Devise and manage appropriate supporter journeys and accompanying communications plans for legacy pledgers and in memory donors
- Work closely with Head of Individual Giving and Fundraising Services to manage the delivery of In Memory administration within Supporter Care
Management
- Manage the delivery of the events, marketing and mailing materials for both the legacy and in memory channels through working closely with the events, marketing and Individual Giving teams to deliver the operational elements of this work.
Financial Planning and Reporting
- To assist in setting income and expenditure targets for legacy and in memory fundraising and other nonfinancial KPIs in line with the team strategy
- To contribute to the annual planning cycle and monthly/quarterly budget reports
- Keep up to date records of expected and actual legacy and in memory income and log all interactions with supporters
- To produce reports and analysis using the CRM database and First Class
- Continually evaluate activity and produce detailed end of campaign reports, ensuring key learnings and insight are fed into planning of future activity as appropriate. Ensure results are shared across teams.
Compliance and Best Practices
- Stay informed on industry and regulatory developments to ensure that St Barnabas Hospices is at the forefront of new legacy and In Memory activity and always complies with regulation and best practice.
- Play an active role within the organisation, promoting positive, effective working, innovation, and best marketing practice.
Knowledge & Experience
- Desirable – CICLA or equivalent experience
- Proven experience in legacy or In memory fundraising, or a similar role within the charity sector.
- Marketing experience for legacies and in memory giving including developing strategies
- Demonstrable experience of stewarding significant donors within a charity
- Excellent financial management skills, with experience in budgeting and forecasting.
- Outstanding communication and relationship-building skills.
- Experience in KPI setting and analysis
- Excellent written and personal communications skills with the ability to communicate with a range of audiences.
- Strong organisation skills with the ability to prioritise and manage time effectively.
- Good interpersonal and relationship building skills.
- Experience in event planning and execution for engagement, cultivation and stewardship.
- Excellent attention to detail and accuracy in managing records and financial data.
- Numerate with the ability to collate and understand financial information to report and provide insight.
- Knowledge of, or proven interest in the charity sector and best practice related to in memory fundraising and legacy giving.
- Proficient in using CRM database, ideally DonorFlex or Raisers Edge and First Class.
This role is hybrid and will be based across our three hospice sites: Martlets in Hove, St Barnabas House in Worthing, Chestnut Tree House in Arundel. The proportion of time spent at the above sites will be agreed with your line manager.
