Job Description

We are looking for a skilled and experienced person to become our new Chief Executive to lead the development of our charity to the next level.  We are seeking an inspirational leader, who has significant senior management experience in an equivalent organisation.

Our charity is based in Barrow-in-Furness and we support over 850 visually impaired people across the SW area of Cumbria.  Last year we celebrated our 100th anniversary.

The post is also the nominated individual for our registered care home and it is important that the care of our Residents is paramount.

We support applications from visually impaired people who can demonstrate they have the necessary skills to lead a sight loss charity and a residential care home.

More information on our charity and the role can be found at

How to apply

Please fully read the attached supporting document "CEO Job Description" on requirements before applying. To officially apply for the position please click the "Apply Now" button which will ask your full name, CV and short statement covering letter that will go to our hiring team for consideration.

Closing date

Interviews will take place in Barrow-in-Furness on 9 Apr 24.

If you would like to talk confidentially with our Chair please contact us at and this will be arranged.

At Vision Support Barrow and District we work to enable and support people with visual impairments to lead independent lives. We do this by providing a wide range of services and practical support for them and their families across South West Cumbria.

We support over 800 people with visual impairments across South West Cumbria at our Centre, Ostley House and in their homes.

Our Vision Support Centre is a go-to-place to seek support whether you’re looking for specialist equipment like glasses and symbol canes or looking for advice for one of our Vision Support Officers.

Our Vision Support Officers are happy to support you in your home during visits to help you fill forms, offer advice and help you gain the support you need.

We are also closely linked with Ostley House Residential Home which provides high-quality care and accommodation to residents with visual impairments and/or dementia.
