Treasurer/Trustee
Skylarks Charity are seeking a dedicated and experienced individual to join our Board of Trustees as a Treasurer Trustee. Skylarks' vision is to create a world where children with additional needs can thrive. As a vital member of our governance team, you will play a key role in ensuring the financial sustainability of Skylarks Charity, allowing us to continue providing essential support to children and families in need.
Mission:
Skylarks Charity aims to provide a supportive and active community, caring for the whole family and removing the isolation often experienced by families with children who have disabilities or additional needs. We offer a range of inclusive services and therapies to over 4500 registered families, and we continue to grow to meet the evolving needs of our community.
Role Overview:
As a Treasurer Trustee, you will be responsible for maintaining robust financial processes, procedures, and practices to ensure Skylarks Charity's financial viability. Collaborating with fellow Trustees, you will assure compliance with legislative requirements, providing financial expertise to the Board and ensuring Skylarks delivers its financial duties and responsibilities.
Key Responsibilities:
- Ensure the Board receives appropriate budgetary and financial information on charity activities.
Requirements:
- Financial skills, knowledge, and qualifications (e.g., ACA, ACCA, or CMA).
Additional Information:
Please be aware that Skylarks Charity is a non-revenue generative organization; thus, all trustee roles are voluntary and unpaid. We ensure that reasonable expenses are reimbursed in accordance with our Expenses Policy.
Skylarks Charity primarily operates remotely, but occasional in-person attendance may be requested for specific meetings. The successful candidate is expected to attend a minimum of 5 Trustee Board meetings per annum, in addition to the AGM and Finance Committee meetings. The role involves dedicating time to scrutinize Board papers, lead financial discussions, and provide advice and guidance as requested by the Board or Managing Director to effectively fulfill the responsibilities of the Treasurer Trustee.
Trusteeship offers profound rewards for various reasons. Engaging with new people, gaining diverse experiences, and acquiring insights into Skylarks Charity will empower the successful candidate to contribute significantly to our charitable cause. Trustees hold independent control and legal responsibility for Skylarks Charity’s management and administration. If you are passionate about creating a world where children with additional needs play an invaluable role in thriving communities, please reach out to us.

Our Story
Skylarks provides a supportive and active community. We care for the whole family, providing opportunities to join in, develop and feel empowered. We want to remove the isolation that can be felt by families and their children who have a disability or additional needs. We are based in Richmond upon Thames but have an open-door policy. Anyone, from anywhere, is welcome!
The charity was originally founded as Me too & Co by a group of parent volunteers in 2006 to fill a gap in the local community where there was a lack of support. You can read more about our founder and beginnings here. In April 2019, we rebranded and officially changed our name to Skylarks Charity (or Skylarks for short) with the support of our corporate partner Haymarket Media Group. Most recently we have been awarded the Queen's Award for Voluntary Service in recognition of the wonderful team of dedicated volunteers we have supporting our cause.
Over 3000 families have now registered to use our services and the list is growing! Over the past 15 years the organisation has continued to grow. We have expanded from first providing inclusive play sessions to now offering a wide range of therapies, activities and services that are often otherwise inaccessible to families. These include services such as hydrotherapy, counselling, inclusive activities like drama and karate and free advice for Special Educational Needs (SEN).
Our independence as a charity means we are able to develop our programme in line with the needs of our families; something that has always been and remains important to us. We do not apply for or receive any statutory funding from government or local authorities.
Why Join Skylarks?
It’s an exciting time to join our team as we look to spread our wings, expanding to deliver to more families across the surrounding boroughs.
From meeting inspiring children and families to watching them grow and flourish, Aaron Guiver, managing director, describes why Skylarks is such a rewarding charity to work for. Read full story here.
Skylarks has continued to grow significantly over the last few years, with a 30% year on year increase in the number of services we deliver to families. Skylarks believe in innovating and adapting its services depending on the needs of the families we support. We have a small but dedicated team and we are always looking to add exciting new members to our inclusive team.
