Do you want to use your experience of working with young people to change lives? If you have a passion for putting young people first, we want to hear from you!

Position: Youth & Community Engagement Manager

Location: home-based with weekly travel across the North of England including to Barnsley, Crewe & Preston (home location within one hour’s commute of Greater Manchester)

Salary: £28,000 to £33,000 (dependent upon experience)

Contract: Permanent, full time (37.5 hours/week)

Closing Date: 9am, Monday 12 September 2022

Interviews: We may hold interviews as & when applications are received, and we reserve the right to offer the role to a candidate at any stage. With this in mind, we encourage you to apply as soon as possible.

As an equal opportunities employer, the charity welcomes applications from under-represented groups; in particular from Black, Asian and Minority Ethnic individuals, people with disabilities, and members of LGBTQ+ community. Their dedicated Equality, Diversity & Inclusion Group, with support from the Senior Management Team, is actively promoting and advancing diversity and inclusion, ensuring a culture where everyone can be themselves and thrive.

About the role:

As an experienced and senior Youth Worker your primary responsibility will be the establishment and running of Young People’s Development Groups (YPDGs). YPDGs are made up of local young people and play a lead role in shaping the development of each new youth centre; from working with a design agency to create the name and brand of a new centre, to supporting the recruitment of staff. Alongside this you will coordinate the involvement and engagement of young people from across the charity’s network to provide feedback on and shape service delivery, to develop into ambassadors and leaders, and to support intra charity events, projects and programmes.

The role is a key role within the charity to ensure young people play their part in shaping and developing provision for young people, and to build positive relationships in the communities where new centres are being established. You will also support community engagement in the lead up to the opening of new centres, creating space for dialogue, and developing open, positive relationships with local community organisations.

About you:

To be successful in the role of Youth and Community Engagement Manager you will be a role model for young people and present a positive “can do” attitude.

You will also need to bring with you the following skills and experience:

  • Significant youth work experience, ideally including centre based youth work and leading residentials
  • Experience of working with young people on developmental programmes and to ensure they have a voice
  • Experience of developing training programmes for young people
  • Experience of handling safeguarding issues involving young people
  • Experience of working with other partners, particularly in the youth sector
  • Experience managing staff or volunteers
  • An effective communicator, both spoken and written, with confidence in speaking to a wide range of groups
  • A relationship builder and networker, who can work in a collaborative way with other community organisations and networks
  • A full driving licence and prepared to drive young people to events across England; the ability to drive a 15-seater minibus would be an advantage

Benefits: Agile working organisation with flexibility in working hours; 25 days annual leave (rising to a maximum of 30 days with length of service), plus bank holidays, birthday leave & annual leave purchase scheme; company matched pension; company maternity, paternity & adoption pay; voluntary benefits with discounts on health & wellbeing, retail & leisure

The charity is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people. This post is subject to an enhanced DBS with a barred list check. Candidates will be required to complete a criminal self-disclosure form if they are shortlisted for the post.

Application Process:

To apply, please submit a CV and one page cover letter telling us why you choose to work with young people and how you match the person specification.
