Principal: Quantitative Data

Do you have quantitative research skills, an interest in the charity sector, and want rewarding, varied work? Join our team, exploring how charities and funders can best use data to learn, innovate and improve. You’ll be part of a fun, values-driven interdisciplinary team of wide specialisms and expertise, who combine innovative consultancy with research and thought leadership.

Our organisation: NPC is the think tank and consultancy for the UK charity sector. We work to increase the positive impact of the sector, to improve people’s lives, make communities stronger and the planet healthier. We help organisations improve what they do, we influence policy and sector behaviour, and we support innovation in the sector. By working across charities, funders and government, we have a unique perspective and influence, while our consultancy department works with some of the leading organisations advancing great practice. As a hub for ideas, questions and debate, we have a lively work environment, and a supportive community of colleagues and collaborators.

This role: We are looking for someone who is interested in the ways quant data can be used in strategy, planning and MEL activity. As a Principal within the Data and Learning Team you will work at different levels. In 1-1 consultancy work, you will lead projects and advise colleagues.  You will have time to develop ideas, to contribute to NPC’s wider thinking and to create new initiatives. And you will convene and collaborate with people through events, partnerships, training and other sector-facing activities.

The things we are looking for include:

  • Excellent quantitative research and descriptive analysis skills, including good working knowledge of excel.
  • Excellent skills in one or more of the following: social research, economics, statistics and /or evaluation skills.
  • A track record of successfully scoping and project managing research and evaluation projects.
  • Ability to generate new business and lead client relationships.
  • Experience working with different stakeholders to achieve project objectives.
  • A keen interest in the role of evidence in the social sector and ideas on how to further NPC’s aims in this area.
  • Ability to write well in clear, plain English.
  • The ability to work flexibly and independently.

The diversity of work and topics, autonomy, intellectual stimulation and supportive culture makes this a special role. But we understand nobody has everything in the job description. What’s more important to us is a real enthusiasm for the job, and we are committed to supporting and developing you through informal and formal learning and training.

As an equal opportunity employer we particularly welcome applications from disabled and ethnic minority candidates, groups currently underrepresented in our workforce.  We are open to applications from applicants looking to work part-time hours.

We are based in London and offer hybrid contracts (we expect staff to be in the office at least one day per week). We are open to applicants who wish to work on a part time basis, at least 30 hours per week.
