Public Realm Manager
We are looking for an exceptional Public Realm, Urban Planning/Placemaking Manager with energy, drive, and ambition to ensure that public realm interventions contribute to making the area more sustainable, welcoming, and accessible.
Position: Public Realm/Placemaking Manager
Location: London - office based – Hybrid - W1G 9HX.
Salary: £50,000 - £60,000 per annum - Dependent on experience
Duration: Fixed Term Contract to 31 March 2027
Hours: Full time, 35hrs per week
Closing Date: 29th August 2022
About the Role:
As Public Realm/Placemaking Manager you will ensure that patients of medical facilities, customers of the local shops and facilities, and visitors can enjoy the area. There is also potential to re-organise and consolidate delivery and servicing operations within the BID’s footprint to reduce their impact on the public realm, and thereby improve business economic and environmental sustainability.
Key Responsibilities:
- Development of the internal agreed public realm approach for the next 5 years and beyond
- Leading or commissioning research to influence and inform strategic thinking on the future of the West End
- Investigating and applying for funding from various sources
- Management of public realm projects including, but not limited to, the curation and activation of under used spaces
- Coordinating with the BID Director on setting, measuring, and reporting on key performance indicators
- Working with relevant stakeholders to commission key public realm projects
- Work with their businesses on freight and waste consolidation and the promotion of active travel in the area
- Drafting and presenting well-written and timely reports for relevant boards.
- Managing the public realm steering group and associated key themes
- Influencing design, management, and activation approaches to key placemaking projects across the footprint
- Working with the marketing team to ensure members and key stakeholders are continuously and fully briefed
About You:
The successful Public Realm/Placemaking Manager will bring with them the following skills and experience:
- Professionally qualified in a relevant discipline (urban design, landscape architecture, urban planning etc.
- Proven record of initiating, developing, delivering, and closing complex projects
- Demonstrable experience of managing performance of and delivery through external contractors and/or suppliers
- An understanding of the planning and highways systems and processes to be followed
- An understanding and experience of interacting with relevant Local Authority departments and elected officials
- Knowledge of methods of acquiring additional funding through relevant streams
- High levels of written and verbal communication
- High level advocacy and influencing skills appropriate for a complex and dynamic stakeholder environment
Desirable
- Knowledge of purpose and legal foundations of Business Improvement Districts
- Understanding of construction materials and processes relevant to streets, shared public spaces and green spaces
