We are looking to recruit a Development Assistant based at either our Midlands or London site. You will join us on a full time, permanent basis and in return, we are offering a competitive salary of Circa £22,950 per annum (dependent on location).

The Royal Air Force Museum is a national museum, a Government non-departmental public body (NDPB) and a registered charity, with two sister sites at London and Midlands. Our purpose is to share the RAF story, past, present and future - using the stories of its people and our collections in order to engage, inform and inspire. Purpose of the Development Assistant role:

To provide effective and responsive support for the activities of the Development team through event support, administration and database analysis, facilitating the team to build positive supporter/stakeholder relationships and meet challenging fundraising targets.

Travel between sites and across the UK is required as part of the role which will also provide opportunities to attend key Museum events and be the face and first point of contact for many of the Museums donors.

Key responsibilities of our Development Assistant include:

  • Ensuring effective communication with all stakeholders, both internally and externally
  • Working closely with other departments to deliver museum-wide programmes and objectives
  • Cultivate internal relationships that cross team boundaries and demonstrate positive collaboration and problem solving with all team members
  • Cultivate external relationships to identify potential new partners
  • Building and maintaining partnerships with relevant external contacts and stakeholders
  • Champion volunteering across the Museum
  • Working to reduce operational costs and maximise resources whilst maintaining standards of products and services
  • Uphold both the spirit and letter of the Museums Association’s Code of Ethics
  • Adhering to Museum policies, procedures and code of conduct, to protect people and the Museum’s reputation, including GDPR, Health and Safety and Safeguarding policies and procedures
  • Professionally challenge procedures that do not add value to the Museum

What we are looking for in our ideal Development Assistant:

  • Experience of working with a database CRM system
  • Experience of fundraising in a professional environment
  • Practical experience of organising successful and imaginative events
  • Experience in prospect research techniques and donor information management
  • Experience in producing effective communications including gift acknowledgement letters, update reports, event invitations and customised emails
  • Knowledge of gift aid processes
  • Experience or working within the museum sector
  • Experience of using Raiser’s Edge donor database within a fundraising environment
  • Experience in working with remote teams and delivering effective internal messaging to create collaborative working environments
  • Experience of working on capital campaigns and revenue fundraising appeals simultaneously
  • Educated to degree level or equivalent experience
