Chair of Trustees & Trustees x3

  • Are you experienced in operating at a senior strategic leadership level within an organisation?
  • Can you motivate staff and volunteers and bring people together?
  • Will you proactively develop a network with the local community and the wider museum and heritage sector?

The Operating Theatre Museum & Herb Garret is seeking to appoint a Chair of Trustees, as well as 3 new Trustees to join the board in 2022, who will champion its continuing mission to contextualise the women’s operating theatre of old St Thomas’ hospital in the attic of the 18th century church in the heart of London Bridge.

The team is excited by a renewed organisation-wide commitment to providing immersive educational experiences and conversations about contemporary health and well-being using its unique space and collection, thereby encouraging the exploration of 18th and 19th century medicine and its relevance to modern practice and our lives today.

With 2022 marking the bicentenary of the operating theatre being built, and the 60th anniversary of the Museum itself, this is an exciting time to join the Board and play a part in a significant development opportunity!

The Lord Brock Trust (LBT) is a Charitable Incorporated Organisation (CIO) set up in 2012, which governs the Museum and we are looking for a new Chair to replace Professor Simon Howell who will step down at the end of this year, when his term of office expires. The new Chair will join at an important time of change and development as we grow the Museum’s profile and offer.

Additionally, we are looking to further develop our board with three new Trustee roles who can bring new and diverse skills in businesslaw, and local community reach.

TRUSTEE DROP-IN EVENING: Monday 8th August, 6pm-8pm.

Pop by St Thomas’ Church at 9A St Thomas’ Street (SE1 9RY), the Museum’s home, anytime between 6pm and 8pm on Monday 8th August for a glass of wine, an exploration of the Museum space and an opportunity to speak with existing trustees and the Director about the Museum’s exciting future.

To apply for any of the Trustee posts available, please visit the website https://oldoperatingtheatre.com/we-are-looking-for-new-trustees/ and submit a CV and covering letter to Jenny Holme by 31st August 2022.

Interviews will take place throughout August 2022.  We would like to have a new Chair in post by September 2022 to allow suitable hand-over time with the outgoing Chair, with planned attendance at the October 2022 board meeting. Further trustee appointments will be made subsequent to this.
