About Us:

Girl Guiding and Girl Scouting is the world’s only movement for every girl and any girl because we believe that each of them deserves to be the best they can be. The World Association of Girl Guiding and Girl Scouting (WAGGGS) is the umbrella organisation for global Guiding representing 10 million girls in 150 countries. In safe, local spaces, girls develop the skills and attitudes to change themselves, their communities and our world.

Powered by 1.5 million volunteers, our Members achieve amazing changes for girls in their communities; they educate, challenge stereotypes, change laws and make sure girls’ voices are heard.

Job Purpose:

In recent years, there has been some progress made within WAGGGS towards increasing the representation of girls and young women within our governance spaces. Throughout 2019 and 2020, a Young Women’s Research Team, made up of young women across the global Girl Guide and Girl Scout Movement was commissioned to investigate why there was a lack of representation of young women within WAGGGS governance spaces. The report they produced provided a set of recommendations which were taken on board at the 37th WAGGGS World Conference in 2021. This includes the introduction of a minimum quota for young women on governance bodies, and multiple initiatives at country, regional and global level to improve spaces for participation and build the capacity of young women to participate.

We are looking for a Youth Participation Advisor to help us review progress to date on these recommendations and move this work forward.

Key Responsibilities:

The Youth Participation Advisor will work with us to implement the recommendations made at the World Conference to improve the participation of girls and young women in governance within WAGGGS at Member Organisation (MO), regional and global level, as well as improving WAGGGS’ programmatic approach to girls' participation.

Key deliverables will include:

- Continuing existing work to consolidate and share positive examples of existing spaces for effective and meaningful participation of girls and young women across the Movement and audit/collate WAGGGS’ existing content and materials on youth participation
- With support and input from Member Organisations already engaging girls and young women effectively in decision making, develop recommendations to WAGGGS in preparation for the development of a resource to support other MOs to make improvements
- Develop a training for all WAGGGS staff and volunteers in effective and meaningful youth participation
- Review existing plans and contribute to new plans for pre-conference events for youth delegates (for the 2023 WAGGGS World Conference)
