Chief Operating Officer – Chelmsford Cathedral
Chelmsford Cathedral stands at the heart of the city, offering a unique place of hospitality, welcome, stillness and prayer amidst the bustle of city life. At its core, the Cathedral is a parish church and a worshipping community with a mission to the city, but beyond that it exists as a space for everyone, hosting a vast range of cultural events, exhibitions, and social out-reach projects at the heart of civic life, inviting people of all faiths and none to go on a journey together as to build a community where all can flourish. Despite the challenges presented by the pandemic, the Cathedral is financially sound, and has an experienced and capable staff team.
We are now at an exciting and pivotal point. Benefitting from an extensive refurbishment of the building at the start of the 21st century, the Cathedral has expanded its external presence across the city and you will join at a time when our relationships in the region are as strong as they have ever been, providing a platform for us to influence and serve the communities of Chelmsford with greater reach. There is genuine scope for our new Chief Operating Officer to identify and pursue new opportunities for the Cathedral, and with our implementation of the Cathedrals Measure now imminent, the chance to shape our governance in a way that supports effective decision making for years to come.
Our new Chief Operating Officer will work with the Dean and Chapter to shape and deliver our future activity, bringing an entrepreneurial and transformational mindset to do so. You will be responsible for leading our people, for managing the day-to-day operation of the Cathedral, and for maximising resources and commercial activities, whilst nurturing its unique character and vision.
We are looking for candidates who can demonstrate a significant track record of leading a complex and diverse operation, with the ability to inspire and develop a multi-disciplinary team. We are genuinely open minded as to your background and we are seeking a broad set of skills for this unique role. Whether your background is in the public or private sector, you will be a proven leader, with outstanding relationship building skills across diverse stakeholders. You will be comfortable working within a complex governance environment, understanding the value this brings and with the ability to affect change within it. With demonstrable financial and commercial acumen, you will bring vision, innovation and a sense of entrepreneurship to all the work that you do. Above all, you must be able to demonstrate an empathy with the values, ministry and mission of the Cathedral and have a passion for its contribution to the life of the City and Diocese of Chelmsford.
Closing date: 5pm Monday 8th August
