This charity are looking for an organised and enthusiastic individual who will be responsible for providing haematologists with up-to-date advice on the diagnosis and treatment of haematological disease.

Founded in 1960, they are a registered charity and professional membership body.  The object of them is to advance the practice and study of haematology and to facilitate contact between persons interested in haematology.  They have some 1,700 members consisting of doctors, scientists and nurses specialising in the field of haematology.  They have the British Journal of Haematology as its official journal and offers a range of grants and scholarships for research.

Job Purpose

The Senior Guidelines Officer will oversee the co-ordination and commissioning of the required guidelines, which is carried out by 4 task forces, each responsible for a specialist area: blood transfusion, haemostasis & thrombosis, haemato-oncology and general haematology. These tasks force groups are responsible for ensuring that guidelines are reviewed regularly and updated as appropriate on their Guidelines website.   Their Guidelines are run by a ‘Guidelines Committee’ which consists of a Chair and Vice-Chair of their Guidelines and the Chairs of each of the four Task Forces.

The post-holder is the first point of contact for this work, co-ordinating the activities of the volunteer groups, and liaises with external groups and organisations as required by their Guidelines Chair and Vice Chair.

Responsibilities

The Senior Guidelines Officer’s role is to organise and liaise with the relevant personnel and organisations to ensure the smooth running of their Guidelines. They report to the Guidelines Chair and Vice Chair, and on a day-to-day basis are line-managed by the Guidelines Programme Manager. The Guidelines Programme Manager is part time, and the Senior Guidelines Officer manages the Guidelines work in the Manager’s absence.

The Senior Guidelines Officer will be responsible for managing meetings of the four task forces, organising SharePoint areas for these groups to use, as well as providing support and training on this function.

This role will require you to support volunteers by managing the full guidelines process, as well as identifying areas in which improvements could be made to this process. You will also ensure that all groups are kept up to date with relevant information to the Guidelines work.

You will also be responsible for carrying out general administration tasks, such as managing memberships of each volunteer group, recording the management of the guidelines work, ensuring all work is carried out in line with GDPR, and providing additional support and advice to Task Forces.

This role will also involve the management of the Guidelines content on their website, creating the Guidelines podcast series and working with the Communications Officer on promoting the work of the Guidelines team.

The Senior Guidelines Officer will be the first point of contact for their Guidelines, so will be responsible for answering external queries from volunteers, liaising with external bodies to ensure documents are reviewed.

Key Skills and Experience

  • Excellent organisational skills, including the ability to prioritise work and work to deadlines.
  • Excellent attention to detail.
  • Able to use a variety of IT/software (eg Mailing software; website content management system; database)
  • Excellent written English Managing a large number of highly skilled volunteers
  • Preparing agendas and taking minutes
  • Organising own workload Working within quality assurance / quality control processes
  • Uses initiative
  • Works collaboratively and constructively with others
  • Willing to learn key terms relating to haematology

Desirable

  • Able to speak with confidence with a range of external stakeholders
  • Has worked in a membership body mainly a health setting
  • Experience of working within medical or scientific setting
  • Experience of similar settings
