Sometimes all it takes is a helping hand

What made you who you are today? If you were given a helping hand when you were young, then you will know how important that moment in a young person’s life can be. Being offered a safe place to go, encouragement, and the chance to learn new skills and take part in activities we feel passionate about can transform a young person’s life and their long-term prospects.

As a Trustee of UK Youth, you can make a difference

At UK Youth that is what we do. Our vision is that ‘Young people in the UK will be equipped, supported and empowered to become their best self and make a positive contribution to society.’ We recognise that to do this young people need inspiration, opportunities, and encouragement to develop crucial life skills that are not always acquired at home or through formal education.

The impact of our work is profound:

Over 5.3m young people supported through our network each year

Over £2 million invested into local youth organisations in 2020/21

Join us and shape the future

We have an exciting opportunity for new Trustees to join the UK Youth Board responsible for the overall governance and strategic direction of the Charity. We are looking for people from all walks of life who can demonstrate a genuine passion for empowering young people, coupled with high levels of integrity. We are especially looking for people who have professional  experience and expertise in Finance.

As Trustee you will act as an ambassador for UK Youth and be responsible for ensuring the charity delivers its stated aim of supporting young people aged 9-25 across the UK. You will be expected to attend four meetings of the Board each year (including one overnight two-day meeting), as well as committee meetings and there is the opportunity to attend additional events with staff and young people.

We know that to deliver our work well we need a multitude of experiences and perspectives to inform our work and decisions. We welcome applications from a diverse range of people to reflect the diverse nature of our beneficiary group, which includes young people who are Black, Asian, global majority ethnic, LGBTQ+, living with disability, or experiencing low levels of agency.

Trustee roles are not paid; however, UK Youth will reimburse you for related expenses such as travel, accommodation, and food. The term of the appointment is 3 years, and this is renewable for up to three terms.

Please submit your CV and supporting statement to hr@ukyouth.org.   More information about the role is provided in the recruitment pack available on UK Youth's website .

The closing date for applications is 9am on 28 July 2022.
