Youth Manager and Lead Worker


Westbourne Park Family Centre

Position Type:

3-year contract 26-35 hours per week

Level/Salary Range:

£16.5 per hour with pension

WPFC Mission Statement: To support and strengthen families in the local area of Westbourne Park. Job Purpose:

To lead the Youth Department for Westbourne Park Family Centre

  • To manage, support and develop the youth work under the direction of the CEO
  • To oversee the training and supervision of volunteers.
  • To ensure good practice.
  • To model and promote the vision and Christian values of WPFC
  • To promote the youth projects

The following competencies are expected to be delivered by the post holder:

Competency: Communication

  • Communicate the purpose of the organisation through personal sharing of the ethos and beliefs of Westbourne Park Family Centre
  • Communicate with the staff team and volunteers across the charity.
  • Participate in staff meetings, sharing in vision, strategy, spiritual and practical discussions
  • Communicate with WPFC CEO and Trustees
  • Communicate with parents of youth attending the Project, utilising appropriate approaches and language for the age range of youth involved
  • Communicate with other users of the church building, regarding joined up working.

  • Ensure staff team and volunteers learning and training needs are identified

  • Plan and agree budget for project with CEO
  • Monitor expenditure
  • Provide reports on expenditure to CEO and Trustees
  • Manage petty cash for project
  • Manage income and subscriptions from activities
  • Keep all receipts/paperwork for transactions, and present them to the Bookkeeper on a monthly basis
  • Ensure staff and volunteers are refunded for appropriate/agreed expenses

Competency: People Management

  • Manage staff recruitment
  • Manage rota patterns for staff team
  • Ensure sufficient cover and staffing for the activities to run
  • Ensure correct skills and skill mix amongst staff team

  • Run projects for youth as part of the service delivered by the Family Centre
  • Coordinate with other departments to enhance the journey of children and parents through WPFC
  • Plan activities/projects ensuring availability of rooms/space within the building
  • Ensure the resources of staff, volunteers and equipment are available for the activities
  • Ensure activities are risk assessed and comply with WPFC/WP Venue policies and procedures
  • Gather monitoring information on the activities as required by the CEO and funders
  • Evaluate activities with the staff team and volunteers, ensuring action plans are put in place to address any issues
  • Raise issues with projects/activities/staff/volunteers in supervision sessions with CEO
  • Apply innovative thinking to developing projects

Competency: public relations and marketing

  • Promote the Projects through informal conversation and through preparing fliers as well as ensuring a presence on social media within the WPFC guidelines, overseen by the CEO
  • Prepare and collate feedback forms

Essential or Desirable

Qualifications and Education Requirements:

Educational certificates in English and Maths


Educated to diploma level or equivalent in a relevant youth work qualification



Certificated training in First Aid; Parenting Support; Safeguarding Children and Young People; Health and Safety




Knowledge of the mission of Westbourne Park Family Centre and an ability to work within the ethos and mission of the organisation



Knowledge General Data Protection Regulations and the impact of these in practice



Knowledge of policies and procedures relevant to Youth work



Knowledge of equality and diversity policy and its implementation in practice



Knowledge of Safeguarding policies and procedures in practice



Skills & Experience:

Able to communicate effectively in spoken and written English language


Experience of IT skills, keyboard skills and understanding of Microsoft Office software packages including Word, Outlook and Excel


Experience of communication skills in managing conversations with tact and perception


Experience of managing staff teams, allocation of workloads, and completing appraisals


Experience of providing training to a staff team or group of people
