The Company

Leadership Through Sport & Business (LTSB) is a successful national social mobility charity established in 2012 currently running programmes for 400+ young people each year with ambitions to constantly improve and serve more beneficiaries in the future.

LTSB works with bright young people from disadvantaged backgrounds, ensuring they find meaningful, skilled careers – and that firms get positive, effective employees who can make a difference from their first day.

We don’t just get young people jobs.  We launch careers.  When diverse talent is given preparation and support, they don’t just get by, they thrive – and that means more representative management which can better train and retain a more representative workforce.

LTSB promotes opportunities to those from backgrounds that are not normally reached, preparing young people for the workplace, and the workplace for young people, providing context for their application, and stewarding the hiring process whilst providing pastoral care – an additional support network for the first phase of their career.

Working with partners such as Premier League football club foundations and education delivery partners across the UK, LTSB provides young people with personal and professional development through bespoke preparation for employment bootcamps, and then places and supports them in apprenticeships with leading employers across the UK.

What differentiates LTSB from other organisations is our passion for social mobility and the huge amount of care and support we provide our young people as well as helping employers find diverse, capable young people for entry-level positions.

The Role

LTSB is now looking for their next Chief Executive Officer to build on their positive impact and momentum. Working with the Board on the delivery of their mission through their long-term strategy, the incoming Chief Executive will lead a passionate team into the next stage of their development and impact. LTSB is seeking an experienced, strategic leader that can help them realise their ambitions.

The successful candidate will engage and build strong relationships with employers and funding partners, corporate and pro bono supporters, staff (currently 24 people who work remotely), delivery partners, referral partners / charities, young people and their families, policy makers and influencers.

  • The ideal candidate will bring energy, determination and enthusiasm.
  • They will relish challenges and be solutions driven.
  • They will have a track record of values driven, creative and collaborative leadership that has achieved sustainable growth.
  • They need to be a strong operational leader, networker and communicator and able to make a significant contribution to addressing social mobility, one of society’s greatest problems.

This is an extraordinary opportunity to make a positive and lasting difference across the UK, so that a young person’s future prospects and career opportunities do not depend upon their circumstances of birth or childhood.

LTSB welcomes applications from a diverse and broad range of backgrounds.

Boyden Executive Search has been engaged by LTSB for this appointment.  For further information about the role, please contact Imogen Long at Boyden or telephone +44 (0) 203 651 6993.  Applications should be received by 8 July 2022.

Company

We focus attention on communities where leadership potential is often wasted and we empower young people in the locations that we work to become future business leaders.

We address all forms of disadvantage: personal, in terms of adverse life events; socio-economic, in terms of class boundaries or lack of social capital; and practical, in terms of preparation young people need for the working world.

Employers increasingly recognise the importance of recruiting young talented individuals from diverse backgrounds. 90% of our employers find that recruiting through LTSB is an effective way of finding diverse, capable young people for entry-level positions, and 83% of our employers agree that our apprentices have been a positive influence on the workplace

Our candidates are capable of making a valuable contribution to an employer but they are held back by a lack of social capital and life skills.  Schools do not adequately prepare them for the world of work, which is why we put so much importance on the pre-work phase of our programme.

Young people in the areas where we work need help to overcome a variety of barriers, lack of opportunity and often generations of unemployment.  We provide them with a real chance and a helping hand to ignite their spark and to develop into well rounded members of their community and dedicated, hard working employees who can ultimately become leaders, movers and shakers.
