This is an exciting opportunity to join the friendly, dynamic, multi-disciplinary team at the Centre of expertise on child sexual abuse as a Practice Improvement Advisor specialising in voluntary sector services to those affected by child sexual abuse. This is a high level practice improvement role focussed on developing, managing and delivering projects and strategies to strengthen the voluntary sector response, and particularly the specialist support, provided to victims / survivors of child sexual abuse and their families across England and Wales.
About the role:
The CSA Centre's Practice Improvement Advisor for the voluntary sector will lead the formulation, development and implementation of a package of support for organisations to strengthen voluntary sector responses to child sexual abuse, by developing, managing and delivering strategies, plans and training initiatives, and managing partner relationships at a high level within the voluntary sector and beyond.
Working within our team of multi-agency practitioners, researchers and policy advisors, and in liaison with those with lived experience of sexual abuse, you will be supporting the CSA Centre to deliver an ambitious work plan rooted in our commitment to improving the knowledge, skills and confidence of professionals in identifying and responding to child sexual abuse. This role, working closely with the research team, will have a particular focus on a new programme of work for the CSA Centre in 2022/23 (and potentially beyond) that aims to:
- Support national government, funders and commissioners to commission services for victims / survivors of child sexual abuse more effectively, by building a greater understanding of existing provision and need across England and Wales;
- Contribute towards ensuring that service provision keeps pace with the needs of victims / survivors of child sexual abuse and their families;
- Increase the strength and resilience of services supporting victims / survivors of child sexual abuse and their families;
- Improve victims / survivors of child sexual abuse and their families' access to support and opportunities that promote safety and encourage healing and recovery.
We are looking for a highly motivated and committed individual with a background in (or experience of working very closely with) the voluntary sector, who has specialist knowledge in the field of child sexual abuse, a demonstrable record of developing practice responses, and a sound understanding of the multi-agency landscape and the role of specialist support services within that.
This role is currently funded until 31 March 2023, in line with the grant funding arrangements for the CSA Centre. This will be reviewed in late 2022, with potential for extension as future funding for the CSA Centre from 2023/24 onwards is clarified.

Funded by the Home Office and hosted by Barnardo's, we are independent and will challenge any barriers, assumptions, taboos and ways of working that prevent us from increasing our understanding and improving our approach to tackling child sexual abuse.

- Collating and analysing existing research, policy, practice and the real experiences of those affected, and filling the gaps we identify with new research, insights and analysis;
- Using that evidence and insight to challenge and improve existing policy and practice, develop new approaches and increase everyone's knowledge and confidence to more effectively tackle the issue.
This role is home based with regular travel required, usually to London.
