We’re currently looking for a Carer Specialist Advocate to join our VAWG (Violence Against Women and Girls) team and provide support to female carer victims of domestic abuse.

The Role

As a Carer Specialist Advocate, you will work with our service users who are Carers experiencing domestic abuse to build safety and support plans, engage with multi-agency partners and maintain or access safe accommodation.

You will provide advocacy and support via phone and face-to-face, for both crises and in the longer-term, empowering women and ensuring that the voice of survivors informs every stage of their journey towards improved safety.

Holding a caseload of survivors, you will work as part of our duty team on a rota basis which will involve completing intake assessments and providing crisis intervention support.

About You

To be considered as a Carer Specialist Advocate, you will need:

- Experience of supporting women who have experienced domestic violence, forced marriage or ‘honour-based violence’
- Experience of risk and needs assessment and safety and support planning, particularly with clients with complex and/or multiple needs
- Experience of crisis management
- Experience of successfully managing high numbers of calls and/or caseloads
- Experience of partnership working and maintaining excellent working relationships with a range of stakeholders
- Knowledge of safeguarding practice, procedures and legislation
- A good understanding of violence against women and girls with a particular focus on the dynamics of domestic violence (physical, emotional and sexual violence, so-called ‘honour-based violence’, forced marriage, stalking and harassment) and its impact on women, children, families and communities
- An understanding of the criminal justice system
- Understanding of legislation relating to legal and civil options, housing, benefits, matrimonial and children
- The ability to network, influence, problem solve to facilitate positive outcomes for women and children
- A relevant qualification or training, for example in domestic violence, criminal justice, law, social work, substance misuse or a related area
