Chief Advisor - Economic Development

£50,000 - £60,000pa

Woking, Surrey GU21 4LL / Hybrid working

This is an incredible opportunity to use your extensive background working on economic development related issues to save our planet. As the world’s leading independent conservation organisation, we are working to safeguard our world. We are concentrating on tackling climate change, seeing thriving habitats and species and changing the food system. To tackle the economic drivers of global environmental destruction and ensure we develop solutions for species through a people-centred approach we need your expertise in this Chief Adviser role.

As Chief Adviser, Economic Development you will advise especially on the development, delivery and evaluation of the people-centred elements of the WWF UK strategy both in the UK and with partner countries.  You will marshal the evidence to support our policy and programmes teams deliver in a way that works for people in the communities and sectors we focus on, as well as blue skies research and thinking to make the compelling case for change.  You will collaborate with colleagues across policy, programmes, campaigns and communications to identify how we can develop policy and programme solutions that improve lives and livelihoods. You will also support the delivery of innovative, high-impact approaches to engage and influence Governments and the private sector.

We will look to you to provide intellectual leadership, so we become a credible and influential voice at the intersection of economic development and the environment. Important will be the ability to ensure we are up to date with, and have access to, leading international expertise and current evidence on the range of issues associated with economic development.

To play your part in saving our planet, you will possess a degree in economics and extensive experience working on economic development related issues. You will have an in-depth understanding of economic development drivers and how the natural world could benefit from different models of development. You will also have operated as a senior adviser to organisations and programmes of work, preferably on issues relating to environment and economic development.

Effective at influencing policy debates, you will also have excellent communication skills. Good at building relationships, you will be comfortable working in a range of cultural environments and international contexts too.

If you have the skills to ensure we are viewed as a science and evidence-based organisation with conservation programmes and communications that are always informed by the latest thinking, please click on the link and apply via our website. Complete the online registration and submit a copy of your up to date CV with cover letter highlighting what makes you a good fit for us.

Application closing date : 05/06/2022

Every role at WWF is open to applications from all sections of society. We believe in the potential of everyone regardless of; sex, race, religion or belief, ethnic origin, different physical ability, family structure, socio-economics, age, nationality or citizenship, marital, domestic or civil partnership, sexual orientation, gender identity, or any other aspect that makes you, well you.  Here at WWF, we are committed to conscious inclusion that helps cultivate an ethos of belonging, connection and shared purpose.  We believe that the more diverse we are the better we become; this brings us together and empowers us to develop, engage and inspire; and critically to help build a future where people can live in harmony with nature.

Our policies and benefits reflect the importance of people being able to have a good work-life balance and being able to bring their ‘full self’ to work.

Our world needs you like never before. We are the first generation to know we are destroying the world and we could be the last that can do anything about it. We are looking for people who are passionate about making it politically, socially and economically unacceptable to destroy our planet’s natural resources. We need you to join us in the fight for our world.

Company

Best known as the world’s leading conservation body, we’ve seen first-hand how wildlife, the environment and human activity are all interlinked.

That’s why our passion for safeguarding the natural world has to be backed up by other environmental action – tackling the global threat of climate change (through our big global campaigns like Earth Hour) and helping people to change the way they live to ease pressure on natural resources.

WWF is at the heart of global activities in all these areas. We have teams of highly skilled professionals working with governments, businesses and communities here in the UK and around the world.
