Chief Advisor - Climate Change

£50,000 - £60,000pa

Woking, Surrey GU21 4LL / Hybrid working

An experienced senior adviser with a strong grasp of current science in the field of climate change, you understand the importance of creating a world where people and wildlife can thrive together.

That is why this role as Chief Advisor for climate issues with the world’s leading independent conservation organisation is perfect for you. As a member of the WWF-UK Science team you will help ensure we are viewed as an evidence-based organisation with conservation programmes and communications that are always informed by the latest scientific thinking.

As Chief Adviser you will provide thought leadership in your area through engagement with, and influencing, the academic community and specialist bodies, seeding new thematic and cross-disciplinary research initiatives, interfacing with the WWF global network community and horizon scanning and innovation. We will look to you to lead our scientific understanding on climate change and its impacts on the natural world as well as for guiding WWF-UK and WWF Network strategies on climate change.

You will play a key role in delivering initiatives and contributing to the development of policy positions as well as helping shape coherent and effective strategies for influencing governments, businesses and other stakeholders. You will also make sure we are up to date with, and have access to, leading international expertise and current evidence. You will take responsibility for keeping us ahead of the external debate.  Important will be the ability to develop strong links with colleagues, relevant bodies and stakeholders too.

To play your part in saving our planet, you must hold a relevant qualification (a PhD is beneficial), and/or equivalent experience in this field. You will have operated as a senior adviser or lead specialist in the subject of climate change and are able to demonstrate excellent up to date knowledge in this area. You will also possess a good grasp of current science and policy debates internationally, coupled with experience of providing strategic leadership to organisations and programmes.

Effective at influencing key political and business stakeholders and shaping policy debates, you will also have excellent communication, presentation and advocacy skills. Good at building relationships, you will be comfortable working in a range of cultural environments and international contexts. It is likely that you will have published work in the subject too.

If you have the knowledge to provide scientific expertise and advice across our organisation to help us build a movement in defence of nature, please click on the link and apply via our website. Complete the online registration and submit a copy of your up to date CV with cover letter highlighting what makes you a good fit for us.

Every role at WWF is open to applications from all sections of society. We believe in the potential of everyone regardless of; sex, race, religion or belief, ethnic origin, different physical ability, family structure, socio-economics, age, nationality or citizenship, marital, domestic or civil partnership, sexual orientation, gender identity, or any other aspect that makes you, well you.  Here at WWF, we are committed to conscious inclusion that helps cultivate an ethos of belonging, connection and shared purpose.  We believe that the more diverse we are the better we become; this brings us together and empowers us to develop, engage and inspire; and critically to help build a future where people can live in harmony with nature.

Our policies and benefits reflect the importance of people being able to have a good work-life balance and being able to bring their ‘full self’ to work.

Our world needs you like never before. We are the first generation to know we are destroying the world and we could be the last that can do anything about it. We are looking for people who are passionate about making it politically, socially and economically unacceptable to destroy our planet’s natural resources. We need you to join us in the fight for our world.

Company

Best known as the world’s leading conservation body, we’ve seen first-hand how wildlife, the environment and human activity are all interlinked.

That’s why our passion for safeguarding the natural world has to be backed up by other environmental action – tackling the global threat of climate change (through our big global campaigns like Earth Hour) and helping people to change the way they live to ease pressure on natural resources.

WWF is at the heart of global activities in all these areas. We have teams of highly skilled professionals working with governments, businesses and communities here in the UK and around the world.
