Help preserve our printing heritage

The Norwich Printing Museum is recruiting to a small number of voluntary positions on its Board of Trustees

We are a rarity, being one of the few remaining working printing museums in the country. The Museum was born from a collection of printing machinery, type and bindery equipment belonging to Jarrold & Son Ltd, a printing company first established in Suffolk in 1815. The Museum has grown over the years to be one of the largest in the UK, and was established as an independent charity in 2019. Most of the Museum’s holdings are currently in storage while a long-term home is sought, but a small working museum is being maintained at Blickling Hall, where some of the Museum’s treasures are on display and courses and demonstrations are on offer.

Whether you are an experienced museum volunteer or trustee, or just an enthusiast for the history and practice of printing, you will be very welcome to apply to join our Board of Trustees.

New Trustees will ideally have skills and enthusiasm in one or more of the following areas:

Leadership and decision-making

Public education

Printing history

Printmaking

Design history

Bookbinding

Museum management

Marketing and publicity

Secretarial skills

Fundraising

Managing volunteers

Norwich and Norfolk life

As a Trustee you will be able to:

Take part in management and decision-making processes for the Museum

Bring your own ideas and enthusiasm to the Museum

Engage with other museums and collection-holders in the UK, and with the societies and funding bodies which support the Museum

Enhance public education and understanding of printing’s heritage

Benefit the community by helping to run a popular resource and visitor attraction

Receive induction and ongoing expenses

Time commitment. The Board of Trustees meets monthly or bimonthly throughout the year, in Norwich (with the opportunity for those living outside the area to join meetings via Zoom), as well as conducting some ad hoc committee business between meetings.

Deadline for applications: 1 June 2022. To apply, please send an e-mail, explaining why you would like to become a Trustee and what qualifications you have, and giving the contact details for two referees (one personal, one professional), to Jules Allen on enquiriesnpm@btinternet.com. Informal interviews will be held in June and July. For further information or to find out more about what Trusteeship involves please contact Jules, or Paul Nash on paul@strawberrypress.co.uk.
