Public Affairs Officer

Location: Can be home-based in the UK with frequent travel to London
Salary: Up to £27,000 (dependent on experience)
Hours: Full-Time, 35 hours per week, Permanent

We act because everyone relies on the ocean to survive - from the air we breathe to the food we eat. We have ambitious plans to drive political, cultural and social change for our seas to support abundant marine wildlife, sustain livelihoods and unlock the investment in marine solutions to tackle the climate crisis.

We have big ambitions and our governments need to be compelled to take action. If you’re passionate about the marine environment, with a proven track record of influencing political decision makers, then we want to hear from you.

By joining our Public Affairs team, you’ll support the development and delivery of our strategy across the organisation and play a key role in getting the right messages to the right places at the right time. You’ll be a vital link across our issue specific teams, producing briefings, blogs, speeches and events and taking our evidence-based advocacy to Westminster.

Delivering our Public Affairs Strategy: Has the skills and experience to engage governments and parliamentarians with our work. Can produce briefings, blogs and events to engage a range of audiences with our evidence-based campaigns. Stays active to changes in government policy and parliamentary business and responds accordingly.

Engagement: Can plan and deliver events with stakeholders and parliamentarians that have impact and are well organised. Proactively seeks out potential opportunities to get our work noticed and acknowledged.

Working with us: Takes an inclusive and equitable approach and values an ethical working standard. Is a problem-solver and supports others and enjoys working with a team of passionate advocates for our ocean and environment. We are looking for you to demonstrate our values, but we take pride in you being able to share your unique perspectives and experiences which add to our knowledge and our culture.

Selection process

If you’re invited to an interview, you may be requested to prepare a task in advance, or take part in a group activity as part of the assessment process – we’ll let you have all the details in the invitation to interview.

- We are not licensed to issue work permits so candidates are required to provide proof of eligibility to work in the UK and will be required to present original documents if invited for interview. - receipt of two references which are satisfactory to MCS
