Youth Support Worker

We are seeking a Youth Support Worker, passionate about changing the lives of young people and helping them into employment.

You will be working for a charity who really make a difference in the lives of young care leavers. Wherever they’re coming from, they help to open doors and give them the skills, confidence, and inspiration to realise their full potential.

Position: Youth Support Worker

Location: Lower Marsh, Waterloo, London Borough

Salary: £28,000 - £32,000 per annum

Hours: 6-month fixed term contract, 37.5 hours per week across 7 days

Benefits: 24 days holiday per year PLUS the 1st Friday of every month is a half day. Pension contributions are payable 3% after 3 months of service, employee assistance programme.

About the role:

The role of Youth Support Worker is about empowering young people and helping to give them the tools, skills, and confidence to improve their employment and education opportunities and help them realise their potential.

You will be responsible for developing a team strategy that is in line with the organisation’s overall strategy. You will also be responsible for building and maintaining relationships with employers as well as developing new and innovative ways of working.

Other requirements for the role:

 

  • You will assess the needs of young people and deliver a set programme of activities
  • Manage a caseload of 30-35 young people and offer one to one guidance and support
  • Attend training to maintain up-to-date knowledge of safeguarding, health and safety and local policy developments
  • Keep up to date with relevant legislation to do with children and young people in care
  • Undertake administrative tasks, maintain effective record keeping systems and respond to queries

 

About you:

To be successful in the role of Youth Support Worker you will have a creative background, whether that be in sports, arts, or drama and you will have strong commitment and understanding of mental health and emotional wellbeing.

Other key skills and experience you will need to bring with you include:

 

  • Proven experience of liaising and working with a multi-agencies
  • An understanding of safeguarding young people and the ability to respond to incidents in a timely caring manner
  • A strong commitment to young people and an understanding of the factors affecting their lives
  • The ability to treat young people's concerns with respect, tact, and sensitivity
  • An appreciation for the challenges and barriers that young people from disadvantaged backgrounds face
  • Provide reliable support to young people in times of stress and act with integrity
