Job Details

Helen & Douglas House is a children’s hospice service, providing specialist palliative care to children across the Thames Valley and beyond. As a result of our recent strategic planning we are looking for Trustees with specific expertise in the areas of Nursing, Technology and Fundraising. Ideally you will have worked in the area we are seeking expertise in at a strategic level with a moderate degree of accountability and responsibility. As our Fundraising Trustee, you will ensure the charity’s fundraising activities meet the Code of Fundraising Practice, the laws and standards laid down by other regulators such as the ICO, and the Fundraising Regulator, ensuring fundraising activities align with the charity’s purpose, do not risk the charity's assets or reputation, and ensure that any conflicts of interest are appropriately managed. You will support and advise the Board of Trustees regarding the increasing professional nature of fundraising and the associated risks and be an advocate for the team and champion investment in fundraising and marketing activity.

Skills we are looking for in our Fundraising Trustee:

- Extensive experience of strategic fundraising and marketing, preferable gained at a senior level in a third sector environment.

- An understanding of the Income Generation landscape, building sustainable income, product development and diversification, test and learn, the complexities of managing supporter relationships, supporter journeys and comms strategies, the value of data, customer service, key Performance Indicators, and reporting.

- Experience of working with a variety of income streams across the fundraising and marketing mix, and the central place of digital, automation and data in this mix.

- An understanding of fundraising regulation, risk evaluation and management, and long-term income planning.

- Passionate about the fundraising and able to advocate for supporters.

- Willing and able to visit shops, attend supporter events, attend meetings with prospects and donors with members of the fundraising team, network and make peer to peer approaches/asks.

This very fulfilling role is unpaid with a time commitment of at least 12 days a year plus the requirement to attend other ad hoc meetings and events. All Trustees are required to attend at least 75% of board meetings annually and 75% of subcommittees. Training and support will be provided.
