Job Details

Helen & Douglas House is a children’s hospice service, providing specialist palliative care to children across the Thames Valley and beyond. As a result of our recent strategic planning we are looking for Trustees with specific expertise in the areas of Nursing, Technology and Fundraising. Ideally you will have worked in the area we are seeking expertise in at a strategic level with a moderate degree of accountability and responsibility. As our Nursing Trustee, you will support and advise the Board of Trustees regarding nursing and the holistic care element of the service delivered by Helen & Douglas House. You will offer advice, support and challenge to the Director of Clinical services and Medical Director in the further development of the organisation’s clinical services, and support, share expertise and be a critical friend to the Director of Clinical Services and Medical Director in the delivery of services and development of innovative and developmental healthcare.

Skills we are looking for in our Nursing Trustee:

- Wide ranging experienced in a Senior Nursing role, preferably involving children, palliative care, or other clinical experience relevant to our service users.

- A clear understanding of the governance structures and processes within a clinical provider organisation.

- Experience in Care Quality Commission regulations and compliance.

- Experience in developing a clinical service/s.

- Knowledge and understanding of Information Governance in a healthcare setting, in particular the management of patient data.

- Passionate about Nursing and the difference it can make.

This very fulfilling role is unpaid with a time commitment of at least 12 days a year plus the requirement to attend other ad hoc meetings and events. All Trustees are required to attend at least 75% of board meetings annually and 75% of subcommittees. Training and support will be provided.
