Media and Communications Officer

This is an exciting time for the organisation, and we are seeking a talented, enthusiastic and proactive individual to join at this critical stage of the charity’s development.

Position: Media and Communications Officer

Location: Home based with one/two days in Warwick per month (flexible)

Salary: £28,000 - £33,000 per annum dependant on experience

Hours: Full Time (reduced hours negotiable)

Benefits: 10% pension contributions, 28 days’ annual leave

Closing Date: 9th May 2022

The Role:

Following the high-profile success of the Covid-19 Urgent Appeal, the Media and Communications Officer will work with the Head of Media and Senior Media Officer to deliver the media strategy and secure regular media coverage for the charity.

With a particular focus on fundraising activities (community, events, and corporate) and sharing the personal stories of those the grant funding has helped (including both individuals and projects), the main duties and responsibilities of the role include:

 

  • Work with colleagues in the media team to support the delivery of our PR strategy.
  • Devising and delivering a forward plan of media opportunities that support our fundraising activities and promote our impact
  • Taking a proactive approach to gather fundraising and impact stories, working with the membership team and liaising with member charities
  • Selecting and briefing appropriate internal and external spokespeople (e.g. case studies) who can speak on behalf of the charity
  • Building and maintaining strong working relationships with journalists
  • Maintaining an up-to-date media contacts list and generate specific media lists as required
  • Maximising relationships with celebrities and other high-profile supporters to achieve positive coverage for the organisation
  • Supporting liaison with NHS England, DHSC and other bodies to build relationships and ensure alignment of our messages where required
  • Acting as a point of contact for press enquiries during working hours (9-5) and out of hours, including weekends, on a rota basis
  • Monitoring press coverage and general NHS and NHS charities related stories
  • Working with colleagues in the press office to analyse media coverage and complete reports that demonstrate the impact of their work
  • Monitoring opportunities and acting on them as they come up
  • Working with the Director of External Affairs and Communications, Chief Executive, Chair, Members, NHS England, DHSC

 

About you:

To be successful in this role of Media and Communications Officer you will need to have previous experience within a similar role and be articulate, passionate, driven and committed to deliver, a confident communicator and well organised with an eye for details.

You will have experience of:

delivering media coverage for a comparable organisation

 

  • successfully pitching to and building relationships with national, regional and sector journalists
  • finding creative solutions to campaign coverage
  • reactive media management for an organisation in the public eye.

 

You will have:

 

  • Excellent time management skills and an ability to consistently meet deadlines
  • Strong political awareness and should work in a politically sensitive environment
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and a track record for collaborative working and building sustainable relationships at all levels.
  • Demonstrable commitment to representing the equality and diversity of the communities we serve
  • Demonstrable commitment to the voluntary sector
