Director of International Programmes and Partnerships

These are exciting times for the charity and we have an outstanding opportunity for a proactive and inspirational Director of International Programmes and Partnerships to provide leadership and strategic direction for the International portfolio of work which is designed to improve the welfare of donkeys.

Position: Director of International Programmes and Partnerships

Location: Home-based. Flexibility will be required for onsite attendance in Sidmouth, Devon – an area of outstanding natural beauty, as the demands of the role dictate, and for international travel (currently anticipated to be up to eight times per year) to visit TDS teams and partners.

Hours: Full-time, 35 hours per week, 08.30-16.30, Monday-Friday

Salary: £75,000 per annum

Contract: Permanent, starting as soon as possible

This increases by one day each year until a maximum of 34 days is reached.

The Role

As Director of International Programmes and Partnerships you will collaborate, convene and facilitate with other stakeholders on the identification of themes and priorities to reach donkeys in need around the world. You will develop collaborative partnerships worldwide which will facilitate delivery of innovative, high-quality sustainable donkey welfare programmes, focused on quality and impact.

Within this multifunctional and rewarding role, your main duties and responsibilities will include:

 

  • Leading on the design and delivery of geographic strategies to transform the lives of donkeys in greatest need across the world, focusing on a clear analysis of welfare needs, change facilitation, and stakeholder engagement
  • Defining and consistently applying an approach to risk analysis, mitigation and management inclusive of a comprehensive partner due diligence process.
  • Building effective and mutually beneficial relationships with the organisations operating in the development, humanitarian and animal welfare sectors.
  • Inspiring, motivating and leading the International Programmes and Partnerships Team.
  • Ensuring that programme staff working internationally or remotely are integrated into organisational systems and culture, and that their wellbeing, safety and security, roles and remuneration meet organisational norms and policies.
  • Developing a high-performing team culture that demonstrates the organisational values, wherever staff are based.
  • Ensuring that technical teams and subject matter-experts are part of designing interventions and quality assuring partner-implemented projects, and that the portfolio of Geographic Strategies and partner-implemented projects is able to demonstrate the contribution to the organisational strategy through the implementation of an effective Results Framework and Evaluation Policy.
  • Managing the International Programmes and Partnerships budgets and overseeing the effective financial management of each programme with support from the Director of Finance.

 

About You

With substantial experience working at senior leadership level, including successfully leading, coaching and motivating a multi-site international programme.

You will have knowledge and experience of:

 

  • Working in the international animal welfare and development sectors along with leading and implementing international strategies

 

 

  • Communication, negotiation, influencing and presentation skills
  • Direct and distance management of a multi-disciplinary team
  • The ability to establish, build and maintain successful collaborative relationships with internal and external stakeholders and partners, in particular international organisations, government agencies, academics and NGOs
