Social Work Senior Practitioner

When a child is diagnosed with cancer life becomes full of fear, for them and their family. Fear of treatment, but also of families being torn apart, overwhelming money worries, of having nowhere to turn, no one to talk to.

Our client helps families find the strength to face whatever cancer throws at them. And you could be a part of the team making it happen.

About the role

They are looking for an experienced social worker with supervisory experience to join their innovative and dynamic Central Support & Social Care team as a full-time (35 hours per week) Senior Practitioner. This is a mixed staff and volunteer team delivering UK-wide digital and phone-based support to children and young people diagnosed with cancer and their families. The team provides an additional point of entry to our client's services, alongside their local social care teams based in hospitals.

Working hours are Monday - Friday 9am-5pm. You can be based anywhere in the UK, but you will need a quiet and private space at home to work from.

You will support the team leader to provide an efficient and effective digital support and social care service to children and young people diagnosed with cancer, and their families. This will include practice management and supervision of delegated social care staff and volunteers, and supporting team members to work with multi-disciplinary professionals across health and social care. The senior practitioner will also carry a caseload of complex cases.

About you

Their work is rewarding but also complex and demanding; you will need to be resourceful and resilient. You will also need strong digital skills, and the ability to work at pace across multiple digital channels.

You will have:

• A minimum 4 years’ experience of working with children and young people including complex case work and risk assessment and care planning, caseload management and interagency working
• Experience of managing safeguarding for children and vulnerable adults, legislation, procedures and best practice
• Experience of supervising students and / or staff in a social care setting
• Experience of delivering support to young people and families via different mediums including individuals, groups and digital delivery.
• A proven ability to manage expectations of key stakeholders including staff and service users
• The ability to offer skilled support, knowledge and expertise to staff teams, and to engage and support social care staff within the Central Support & Social Care team in reflective practice

It is desirable that you have experience working in an NHS setting.

This post is subject to a Disclosure and Barring Service check (DBS).

What they offer

In return for your commitment, they offer a great reward package, which includes generous annual leave entitlement, pension scheme and season ticket loan.

They are always looking for talented people from all backgrounds, to join them and help improve the lives of children and young people with cancer and their families. They particularly want to encourage people from under-represented groups to step forward and apply to work or volunteer.

Our client is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people and expects all staff to share this commitment.
