Risk and Compliance Manager

About SH:24

First off, thank you for considering a role with us!

SH:24 is a pioneering online sexual and reproductive health service, delivered in partnership with the NHS. We make it easy for people to self-manage their sexual and reproductive health online by providing free STI test kits, contraception & treatment, information and advice - 24 hours a day. We’ve won a host of awards and industry recognition for what we do, and we’re happy to say that our reach and services offered are expanding every day.

We are not-for-profit and passionate about delivering discreet, convenient and clinically safe sexual health services. Our vision is to make it easier and faster for people to access sexual and reproductive health services, no matter where they live; we’ve been doing it since 2003. We’re also proud of our community and the people who work for us; those who have helped us shape a company that puts our users at the heart of everything we do by designing services that are easy to use, easy to access and easy to understand by all that need them.

The Role

Our Operations Directorate is responsible for the oversight, management and the effective running of our services, supply chain and internal functions. It comprises of four teams:

  • Customer Support
  • Logistics
  • Our People
  • Risk and Compliance

We are looking to recruit a resourceful individual to manage our Risk and Compliance Team. Reporting directly into the Operations Director, you will navigate SH:24’s multi-faceted regulatory landscape and be responsible for ongoing programmes of work that ensure compliance with relevant standards, effective reporting, implementation of best practice and impactful risk management techniques. Specifically, you will be responsible for:

  • Oversight of our data privacy responsibilities, including SH:24’s policy framework, coordinating submission of NHS Digital’s Data Security and Protection Toolkit, Cyber Essentials and maintenance of DCB 0129 and 0160
  • Managing work related to quality control systems such as ISO 13485 (medical device standard) and CE / UKCA marking, including preparation for any audits
  • Maintaining our robust clinical governance framework and ensuring compliance with the Care Quality Commission’s standards. This would include preparing for any forthcoming inspections / regulatory tests
  • Servicing our internal Quality and Risk Management Group, which includes oversight of our risk register, complaints procedure, incident management and performance across key service metrics
  • Undertaking any reporting to our notifiable bodies / managing communication with them

What We Need From You

We are looking for someone who has experience of working in the healthcare regulatory landscape in which SH:24 operates. You don’t need to have worked in a digital setting, and appreciate you may not have experience in all of the regulatory areas relevant to SH:24. Most importantly you need to be able to demonstrate a strong aptitude for assimilating and understanding the requirements of guidance and statutory / legal frameworks and what that means for how SH:24 works. You’ll be thorough, have an excellent attention to detail, supported by a sophisticated power of analysis.

A highly organised and a natural planner, you need to be someone who is unintimidated by initiating and managing parallel ongoing programmes of work to ensure our compliance in various areas. You must be someone who likes to work in a multi-disciplinary way in order to develop systems, processes and policies with those in the organisation who have the relevant expertise and knowledge. You will be able to communicate concisely and clearly to help others in the team navigate what can be intimidating guidance from regulators.

Finally, we are looking for someone who is open-minded about tackling regulatory challenges: a believer that robust agile approaches can achieve the highest levels of compliance without inhibiting innovation or the ability to continuously modernise services.

What You’ll Get From us

We are always interested in upskilling our employees, and are flexible in ways to do it: be it courses, books, onsite or remote learning with a colleague - whatever suits the situation best. If there is a particular skill or product you would like to work on and improve, we’ll always try to accommodate you.

We’re also keen to allow the team to work in the way they want - you can choose the OS of your machine, your chair, standing desk, dual monitors etc. If there is anything you need don’t be afraid to ask.

As well as remuneration in the region of £45,000 based on experience, SH:24 provides a number of other benefits, including 25 days of annual holiday (in addition to the days between Christmas and New Year), truly flexible working, excellent pension contributions and life insurance.

Equality and Diversity

As an employer, SH:24 is committed to inclusivity.

We want to increase representation of currently under-represented groups to make SH:24 more diverse.

Our aim is to build an inclusive team, where everyone is able to be themselves at work and feel supported, empowered, valued, respected, fairly treated and able to achieve their full potential.

As an inclusive employer we will not tolerate discrimination.

Interview Process

If you are selected for interview, the process comprises of two rounds:

  1. A structured interview with a panel of three members of the team, including SH:24’s Operation Director and Operations Manager. This will include a short presentation that you will be asked to prepare prior to the interview
  2. If you are successful in the first round you be invited to a less formal discussion exploring why you think your next role would be at SH:24
