Our client is a powerful global movement dedicated to ending factory farming and radically changing our food system to reduce reliance on animal protein, before it’s too late.

With their teams in 10 countries around the world, including the US and China, they lead a growing worldwide movement of people concerned about how industrial agriculture is negatively impacting animals, people and our planet. Reducing the consumption of animal sourced protein and replacing factory farming with regenerative agriculture will bring better lives to billions of farmed animals, save wildlife from extinction, improve our health and leave a planet fit for future generations.

At the heart of this work is their Global Research Team, who ensures that our client’s technical knowledge of these issues is robust and able to influence the external world.

About the role

Strong, robust scientific evidence is crucial when making the case to end factory farming. They are looking for a Global Head of Research to strategically lead on the development and delivery of their technical knowledge across a wide range of farm animal species and issues, and how those relate to the linked issues of climate change, pollution, biodiversity loss and human health.

Working closely with the Global Director of Campaigns, the Global Head of Food Systems Advocacy and the Special Advisor to the CEO, this post-holder will act as a leader, mentor and advisor on animal welfare and its integration into humane sustainable food production across the teams. The post holder will both oversee, as well as directly write, reports, briefings, and governmental consultation responses either individually or in partnership with organisational colleagues and consultants.

About you

This post requires:

  • Proven track record in applied scientific research and critical analysis
  • Ability to condense large volumes of scientific evidence / complex information into succinct summaries and cases of support for the welfare and food systems transformation change they ask
  • Demonstrable experience of applied animal production / welfare science/ food systems work in the NGO, academic, food or farming sectors
  • Education to post graduate degree level (MSc or PhD) in a relevant discipline (such as, but not limited to, agroecology, food systems, sustainability, animal welfare and behaviour, animal production, zoology) or a degree in veterinary science
  • Excellent written, verbal and presentation communication skills adapted for diverse audiences.
  • Ability to engage, inspire and influence both internal and external stakeholders


Proficiency in another language and a passion for or interest in animal welfare and environmental issues would be an advantage.
