Location: Flexible in England
Salary: £32,400.00 - £35,944.00 Per Annum
Benefits: Pension, Annual Leave, Life Assurance

We are in a Nature and Climate Emergency – nature is in rapid decline. Our client’s ambition is to deliver nature conservation at the scale and standard needed to help nature recover.  This is a massive challenge - they can only do this by building a movement of people and communities to support the cause. Do you have what it takes to deliver the communications needed to help this organisation achieve that goal?

They are looking for a digitally savvy, inspirational communications manager.  You will work with their country and HQ colleagues to plan, develop, manage and deliver the very best creative and effective communications campaigns across digital, print and broadcast channels. You will lead on managing the country communications planner and its integration within their Annual Communications Plan, as well as the monitoring, evaluation and reporting of their communications activities.  Working as part of a team of 4 Country Communications Managers, you will manage media relations, reputational risk, marketing, publications, stakeholder engagement, and digital marketing. You will work with your colleagues on building volunteer capacity within the team, line manage a Communications Officer, and develop the skills and capabilities which will enable the team to excel.

The role also involves:

  • Responding to reactive media queries, including risk management.
  • Building good internal working relationships at region, country and UKHQ levels.
  • Developing and nurturing external relationships with journalists, editors, producers, PR industry contacts, researchers and partnership organisations.
  • Copywriting and content creation (including video, images, graphics and blog).
  • Managing and developing digital channels (social media, web, podcast, etc).
  • Ensuring communications are created and delivered in a clear, compelling and on-brand style
  • Planning and leading delivery on major UK-wide campaigns such as Big Garden Birdwatch
  • Providing support and consultancy advice on communications delivery to area, reserve, conservation, fundraising, and engagement colleagues across England.
  • Managing and monitoring communications budgets.

What they need from you:

As one of 4 Country Communications Managers, you will report to the Head of Communications and Marketing and line manage at least one Communications Officer plus volunteers. The successful candidate will work closely with colleagues across England, the other devolved country teams, and from their UKHQ to deliver communications campaigns.

This charity needs a dynamic, highly organised leader and manager who is bursting with ideas and has exceptional copy-writing skills combined with good attention to detail.

The role requires a friendly and collaborative approach, adept situational leadership, and the ability to adapt to rapidly changing workloads and priorities. You will be able to work effectively under your own initiative to achieve results, and at times step up to take on additional responsibilities when required.

  • Minimum of three years experience in communications, public relations, media, or marketing.
  • Experience in communications planning, and a proven track record of leading, delivering and evaluating multi-channel communications campaigns.
  • Excellent people and team leadership, management and capability-building skills and experience.
  • Experience of media relations, reputation management and using a range of tactics to achieve print, broadcast, and online coverage.
  • Experience of managing digital communication channels (social media, web, podcasts, blogs) and content creation (photographic, audiovisual and digital assets).
  • Experience in monitoring and evaluating communications delivery across channels, managing performance improvement against targets, and reporting.
  • A good understanding of brand strategy and management.
  • Excellent communications (written and verbal) and editorial skills, and experience of giving advice and support to colleagues.
  • Creative flair, collaborative working approach and strong prioritisation skills combined with the ability to meet tight deadlines.
  • Working understanding of equality, diversity and inclusiveness, and its application within communications delivery.

  • Knowledge of and interest in nature, nature conservation and current environmental issues.
  • Experience of working for or with environmental, charitable, heritage or destination marketing organisations.
  • Membership of a professional body e.g. CIPR
