The Charity

Our client is a registered charity. The charitable purpose of the organisation is defined mainly but not exclusively in terms of the provision of buildings. Their major source of income arises from the lettings and rentals from the buildings that they own.

What The Organisation Do

To achieve their objective, the charity's main activity is to maintain, repair, preserve and insure their 32 Meeting Houses, and other properties within the London area and to help pay for rented accommodation where appropriate. The charity has an extensive multimillion pound property portfolio and a program of quinquennial surveys and repairs/improvements. There is also a significant investment portfolio.

Local meeting volunteers act as the charity's agents in arranging lettings and in managing and accounting for income at a local level. All such income is managed by the charity as a pooled resource across the whole of London. The organisation therefore has extensive links with local Meetings, not only in relation to the physical state of buildings but also in relation to health and safety issues, insurance, lettings policies and rental levels, and local financial management.

Following a strategic review, the charity is seeking to recruit a new role to help them with this important work: a Volunteer and Local Meeting Support Officer.

Purpose of the role

We are living in a time of extensive social change with increasing levels of deprivation. As a charity with many millions of pounds in assets, the organisation need to decide on what their response should be and how it will affect their current activities. As such, one of the key purposes of the Senior Manager role will be to develop and implement a new strategic plan for the charity that will take into account the effects of the pandemic but also identify how the charity manage their property portfolio now and into the future.  The role is also responsible for supporting the governance work of the trustees and day to day management of the staff team.

Who are the charity looking for?

The role will suit someone with a natural flair for strategic vision and creative leadership, who is keen to apply their existing knowledge and skills to a small charity with the aim of leading the development and implementation of the organisations future Strategic plan.  You need to have experience of both charity governance and Limited Company arrangements.

The successful applicant will need to have the appropriate level of communication and people management needed to motivate and engage an enlarged staff team as well as to forge strong working relationships with Trustees and third party stakeholders.

What it’s like to work at the charity?

This is an exciting time to join the charity and this post will play a key role in supporting Quaker worship and their work across London. They are a small but growing team. Day to day working life is fast paced but varied and exciting. Th charity's approach is to always offer a high standard of support to the Quaker Meetings who use their properties and to be flexible and adaptable in the way that they work.

In recent times staff have been mainly working from home but when the opportunity allows, the charity plan to introduce a flexible mix of working from home and in the office at nearr Euston Station London.
