The Charity

Our client is a registered charity. The charitable purpose of the organisation is defined mainly but not exclusively in terms of the provision of buildings. Their major source of income arises from the lettings and rentals from the buildings that they own.

What The Organisation Do

To achieve their objective, the charity's main activity is to maintain, repair, preserve and insure their 32 Meeting Houses, and other properties within the London area and to help pay for rented accommodation where appropriate. The charity has an extensive multimillion pound property portfolio and a program of quinquennial surveys and repairs/improvements. There is also a significant investment portfolio.

Local meeting volunteers act as the charity's agents in arranging lettings and in managing and accounting for income at a local level. All such income is managed by the charity as a pooled resource across the whole of London. The organisation therefore has extensive links with local Meetings, not only in relation to the physical state of buildings but also in relation to health and safety issues, insurance, lettings policies and rental levels, and local financial management.

Following a strategic review, the charity is seeking to recruit a new role to help them with this important work: a Volunteer and Local Meeting Support Officer.

Purpose of the role

This role will involve working directly with volunteers helping them to manage their buildings and to maximise opportunities for income generation.  The charity hope that the work will start with an assessment of needs of volunteers and the development of a programme of support in the areas of training, induction, property management, development of business cases and problem solving.  You will also help manage day to day communications with volunteers and our members using the web, regular newsletters and local updates.

Who are the charity looking for?

This role requires great interpersonal and communications skills. The role will suit someone with experience as a volunteer or having been a facilitator of volunteers. Good proficiency with social media and MS Office applications is a must.

You should have a good understanding of how charities work and the associated legal responsibilities and ideally have experience of working for a charity. Being able to offer a professional service to volunteers and to create a positive volunteer experience is essential, so great verbal and written communication skills are also important.

What it’s like to work at the charity?

This is an exciting time to join the charity and this post will play a key role in supporting Quaker worship and their work across London. They are a small but growing team. Day to day working life is fast paced but varied and exciting. Th charity's approach is to always offer a high standard of support to the Quaker Meetings who use their properties and to be flexible and adaptable in the way that they work.

In recent times staff have been mainly working from home but when the opportunity allows, the charity plan to introduce a flexible mix of working from home and in the office near Euston Station London.   This post will require you to travel across London and may involve some weekend and evening work (TOIL arrangements will cover flexible working).

Closing date: Monday 14th February
Interviews: w/c 28th February
