WDC Position:             Director of Finance (part time approx. 20 hours per week)

Responsible to:           CEO

Location:                     Chippenham office, with some flexibility for home working

Main Tasks and duties:

To lead and implement WDC UK’s financial strategy in fulfilling the organisation’s objectives:

  • Work with the CEO to ensure that there are effective, on-going long term strategies for Finance for WDC
  • Lead the team in the production of annual income and expenditure budgets, forecasts, monitoring and high quality management reports for all levels of WDC employees and trustees
  • Agree and implement effective business controls and assess the performance of the team against strategic objectives
  • Ensure the resources available are deployed appropriately to maximise operational benefit and are within charity rules and regulations
  • Report on Key Performance Indicators, as agreed by Senior Management Team
  • Effectively manage the cashflow for the UK and the position against reserves levels set by the Trustees
  • Work as a member of Senior Management Team to fulfil WDC’s strategies

Responsible to the CEO for the leadership, motivation and management of the Finance team,  the Scottish Dolphin Centre team and Supporter Relations team:

  • Provide leadership for the Finance team in the UK and strategic oversight and guidance to other WDC sites as requested
  • Provide leadership for the Scottish Dolphin Centre team in the running of the activities of the SDC, including the Trading activities and it’s position as a tourist destination
  • Provide leadership for the Office and Supporter Relations manager
  • Develop the programme of recruitment, appraisal, motivation, retention and development of all team members
  • Foster good communications within the teams, and with other departments across WDC

Responsible to the CEO and the Trustees in ensuring compliance within the various jurisdictions of operation as Company Secretary of WDC and WDC (Trading) Ltd and as a Board member (Treasurer) of WDC North America, WDC Australia and Board attendee of WDC Germany

  • Maintain the statutory registers for Charity and Trading
  • Ensure statutory filings for Charity and Trading
  • Treasurer of US Charity
  • Work with North America office to ensure statutory state filings
  • To keep or arrangement for the keeping of minutes of Trustees and Director’s meetings for the Charity and Trading company
  • Ensure compliance with relevant legislation and reporting requirements
  • Ensure appropriate audits are completed for each company within the UK group
  • Provide advice on effective governance, to look at good practice and introduce to the CEO and Board as appropriate.

Together with the other directors within WDC, to enable the executive to fulfil their functions as set out by the Trustees and to ensure that SMT and the Board receive appropriate and timely information and advice on relevant matters.

  • Be a member of the senior management team (SMT) and international Senior Management Team (ISMT)
  • As a member of SMT and ISMT, set the overall strategy and policy to recommend to the Board
  • Travel to the Scottish Dolphin Centre may be necessary (once a year) and international travel may be required as and when necessary
  • To execute, from time to time, such responsibilities not laid out above, as may be reasonably requested by the CEO or the Board.
