One of the UK’s most inspiring and best-known, faith-based organisations is looking for a highly experienced individual to join them in this newly created role of Head of Community and Membership Fundraising.

For the Salvation Army, their ‘community’ is so much broader than it is for other charities as it includes not only people choosing to fundraise organise/take part in an event, but also church leaders and people who attend a Salvation Army Church. There is also an amazing diversity in the things people fundraise for, ranging from small but impactful local initiatives to national programmes such as supporting refugees and the survivors of modern slavery, along with people experiencing homelessness and tackling addictions.  This role, part of a developing Senior Leadership Team, has been newly created to bring a new strategic approach to this area of fundraising, including spearheading a major new development empowering and supporting local churches and community centres to fundraise more effectively.

To make sure we get the right person for this important new role, we are happy to offer some flexibility in terms of number of hours worked and where/when they are worked. You could be based at Salvation Army Headquarters or if you are home based you would need to come in on occasions, likely to be once a month. Currently Headquarters is at the Elephant and Castle in London but in 2023 it will be moving to a new, modern building at Denmark Hill, London, SE5 8BQ, conveniently situated just across the road from Denmark Hill station.

So, what skills and experience are we looking for?

You will need to be a highly successful fundraiser who knows all about best practice. As a strong, natural manager you’ll be comfortable developing plans, setting and managing budgets and managing staff. You may have been on a senior leadership team but if not, you’ll be ready for that next step and looking forward to playing a part in the leadership of the Marketing & Fundraising Department.

Benefits: 25 days annual leave + bank holidays (pro rata for part-time); a contributory pension scheme; season ticket loan and an employee assistance programme.

The recruitment process is being handled for us by Valerie Morton who knows The Salvation Army well. If you would like to have an informal chat about the role you are welcome to contact her on 01767 677661 or email valerie@valeriemorton.co.uk

Closing date: 30th January 2022 at midnight. Interviews: w/c 7th February 2022.
