Science Based Targets Advocacy Manager

Job reference: REQ000229

£38,433 - £48,000pa

Woking, Surrey GU21 4LL.

If you have extensive technical and working knowledge of Science Based Targets, this is an incredible opportunity to use your expertise to join the fight for nature and save our planet. The world is now starting to make a seismic shift towards a Net Zero, Nature Positive future, and science based targets (SBTs) are critical to drive the transition of business globally.

We are building a new business advocacy team to align, strengthen and supercharge our already strong advocacy base. You could play an expert role in our new team as we look to build on the success of the Science Based Targets Initiative (SBTi) in setting corporate climate targets and to do the same for Nature through the Science Based Targets Network (SBTN).

As Science Based Targets Advocacy Manager you will act as the intermediary between science and business. You will focus primarily on applying your Science Based Targets expertise in support of our business advocacy strategy by working with and influencing key business sector actors and corporate partners. You will need to work with critical stakeholders to understand and bridge the gap between the evolving technical methodologies of SBTi and SBTN and the practical reality of implementing targets in areas such as the food and financial sectors. You will also support the development of policy and advocacy across our three main impact goals of climate, food and thriving habitats and species. You will need to be confident in translating scientific information for a corporate/non-technical audience as well as produce technical reports, briefings and organise training and workshops as needed. You will collaborate with colleagues in the UK and in our extensive network to increase internal and external understanding of and implementation of SBTs for climate and nature.

To make this role a success, you must have extensive technical and working knowledge of science based targets for climate and nature. This will include knowledge of the biodiversity and climate change challenges facing businesses and their supply chains. You will have worked in corporate science-based target-setting, corporate sustainability strategy and/or supply/value-chain mapping. You must be confident in translating and articulating complex technical information for business or non-technical audiences, and possess strong interpersonal, influencing and communication skills. You will also enjoy cross team matrix working, adapting to a rapidly changing context and operating at pace to deliver change. You will need to be driven to support the transition of business and be innovative and flexible in your way of working. Crucially you will have a commitment to the natural world and WWF’s core mission.

If you are passionate about making our world a better place through your work, we would love to hear from you. Please visit our website via the link, complete the online registration and submit a copy of your up-to-date CV with the Supporting Statement highlighting what makes you a good fit for us.

Application closing date : 01/02/2022

Every role at WWF is open to applications from all sections of society. We believe in the potential of everyone regardless of; sex, race, religion or belief, ethnic origin, different physical ability, family structure, socio-economics, age, nationality or citizenship, marital, domestic or civil partnership, sexual orientation, gender identity, or any other aspect that makes you, well you.  Here at WWF, we are committed to conscious inclusion that helps cultivate an ethos of belonging, connection and shared purpose.  We believe that the more diverse we are the better we become; this brings us together and empowers us to develop, engage and inspire; and critically to help build a future where people can live in harmony with nature.

Our policies and benefits reflect the importance of people being able to have a good work-life balance and being able to bring their ‘full self’ to work.

Our world needs you like never before. We are the first generation to know we are destroying the world and we could be the last that can do anything about it. We are looking for people who are passionate about making it politically, socially and economically unacceptable to destroy our planet’s natural resources. We need you to join us in the fight for our world.

Company

Best known as the world’s leading conservation body, we’ve seen first-hand how wildlife, the environment and human activity are all interlinked.

That’s why our passion for safeguarding the natural world has to be backed up by other environmental action – tackling the global threat of climate change (through our big global campaigns like Earth Hour) and helping people to change the way they live to ease pressure on natural resources.

WWF is at the heart of global activities in all these areas. We have teams of highly skilled professionals working with governments, businesses and communities here in the UK and around the world.
