Location: Home-based, flexible. Requires candidate to have necessary technology and quiet working space where they live to perform the role and participate in video calls. Subject to government safety rules on COVID, role may require occasional meetings with colleagues and funders in person (travel expenses will be reimbursed).

Job Overview

The Ivors Academy Trust ("Trust") is the fundraising charity of The Ivors Academy ("Academy"). The Ivors Academy is the UK’s independent professional association for music creators. The aims of the Trust are education and support of less advantaged music creators. While separate legal entities, the Trust and Academy share similar objectives and a strategy under the unifying philosophy, One Academy.

This is a new role situated under the leadership of the CEO and Board of Trustees. The T&F Manager (“T&F Manager”) will work with the Head of Programmes create compelling stories and outcomes, based on existing programme information and developing concepts for new programmes, for donors to see where the funding is needed.

At the core of this role is the need for the T&F Manager to utilize a database of Trusts and Foundations and write compelling applications for 5-figure+ donations and grants. T&F Manager will identify leads, put the case for support together based on existing programme materials and the writing of new concepts, identify and articulate impact, liaise with trustees to draw on their relationships, and develop partnerships with others. It is vital the post holder has the experience to begin grant applications immediately. The types of programmes we seek funds for include:

Bursaries and scholarships to access career networks.

UK-wide In the Music Community partnerships to support the development of careers and livelihoods of songwriters and composers where they live, work and learn.

Creative development, showcases and live performances.

Wellbeing, resilience and adaptation.

Diversity and Leadership Development in Music and the Arts.

Apprenticeships and other career opportunities in the music industry.

Information and knowledge transfer, such as E-Learning, webinars, networking, workshops and lectures.

The T&F Manager will work closely and quickly with colleagues to understand which projects need funding and present them to funders most likely to support. The T&F Manager will have a strategic view on the arts funding space and existing relationships to draw on, including practical experience from working with the Arts Council.

The Academy works closely with many other organizations to bring about positive developments and opportunities for songwriters and composers. For some donors, the T&F Manager will work collaboratively on grant applications with their peers and other colleagues in partner charities.

Responsibilities

Review the research of 500 potential funders and draw up a short list of priority prospects and due dates for submission of applications. Within first 3 months:

Ascertain a realistic number of grant applications and review all current donors.

Agree and deliver within the first month a set of materials for future grant applications and for fundraising team, colleagues and trustees to use.

Develop assets and streamline our offering to succinct presentations.

In consultation with the CEO and colleagues, write timely, compelling grant applications to trusts and foundations.

Maintain a Project Plan to include key milestones and application deadlines and other important dates to ensure applications are submitted with adequate time for colleague review prior to submission.

Identify appropriate funding opportunities and take the lead in developing high-quality, tailored grant applications.

Give the highest level of care and attention to all donors.

Experience and competencies

Previous significant experience of successful major grant applications in a start-up fundraising role within a pacey, target-driven environment.

Ability to write programme concepts from diverse sources of content for potential funders.

Previous success of fundraising in music, the Arts or careers development highly desirable.

Experience working with the Arts Council or similar large funders.

Ability to develop fundraising assets, draft a case for support, codify the impact of the work and assemble compelling communications from various sources.

Some level of strategic experience in terms of identifying and developing leads.

Demonstrable experience in researching prospects, preparing and submitting tailored applications and achieving significant charitable grants.

Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to communicate appropriately with a wide variety of people including senior contacts and supporters, both written and verbally, as well as proven ability to solicit donations and sponsorships.

Ability to build and sustain effective relationships, engage with and influence a wide range of people internally and externally, including board of trustees, board of directors, Academy Senators and councillors, current partners and donors and so forth.

Education, knowledge and skills

A passion for the creation of music.

Demonstrable creative and analytical skills for evaluating fundraising opportunities, preparing and presenting quickly effective proposals and budgets to a high standard.

Excellent command of English – written and spoken – particularly to be able to express and articulate our programmes, adapting appropriately and responsively to each audience or proposal recipient.

Ability to work with colleagues across teams in a collaborative manner.

Strong time management and organisational skills with the ability to manage multiple deadlines and associated pressure demands.

Experienced IT skills using MS Office and Teams, CRM systems, Zoom and other common business systems.

Meticulous attention to detail and accuracy.

Values/common behaviours

The role of T&F Manager requires enthusiasm for fundraising, music and societal progress for music creators. The role requires discretion, keeping confidence, and ensuring administrative processes and best practices in fundraising are consistently applied.

The role requires operating at all times consistently with the Academy's values, behaviours and policies. T&F Manager is required to initiate and maintain tactful and positive working relationships with prospective funders, such as trusts and foundations. The postholder is encouraged to participate in external networks, such as forums on fundraising and community programmes.

The role also requires working flexibly as part of a team and maintaining productive and positive relationships with Trustees and the Academy, its board members, members, staff and volunteers within the One Academy plan. The role also requires willingness and ability to adapt to new technologies, especially those required for remote working.
