Transition Finance Specialist

Job reference: REQ000227

£65,000pa

Woking, Surrey GU21 4LL.

If you have experience in the financial services industry, this is an incredible opportunity to use your expertise to create an equitable and sustainable global economy. The world is now starting to make a seismic shift towards a Net Zero, Nature Positive future, and innovative new solutions to drive that transition are urgently needed. WWF has played a central role in working with the finance sector in spurring this process on and wants to double down now to support and drive this process even faster.

As the world’s leading independent conservation organisation, we are building a new business advocacy team to align, strengthen and supercharge our already strong advocacy base and to leverage our transformational corporate relationships and private sector engagement. You could play a leading role in our new team, and in the wider community on this burgeoning topic, providing thought leadership and working to influence the financial sector and align it towards a Net Zero, Nature Positive future.

As our Transition Finance Specialist, you will be part of a dedicated team of people who will be focussed on influencing and guiding some of the world’s largest financial institutions, including a number WWF’s corporate partners. Your remit will be to provide cutting edge expertise and advice on how to navigate the transition of the finance sector to net zero and you will be our lead finance specialist for our new multimillion-pound global finance sector partnership. Day to day, you will focus on advising and influencing our partners and other financial institutions on their transition pathway. You will work to understand the challenges and opportunities, map out a realistic route to achieving sustainability outcomes as well as identify tools, solutions and policies that will speed progress.  You will also share learning to help inform our wider activities, including research priorities, the development of necessary data, tools and metrics, and our advocacy objectives and engagement with policymakers and regulators.

To make this role a success, you must have extensive relevant experience in the financial services industry, as well as expertise in implementing a significant sustainable model or practice within the sector. This will have given you an in-depth understanding of the impacts, risks, challenges and opportunities in delivering a transition pathway in the finance sector. You will also have sound knowledge of how the finance sector operates nationally and internationally, and an understanding of new sustainable finance and net zero initiatives within the sector. Critically you will be able to demonstrate strong initiative in exploring this agenda and identifying the most pressing issues and trends and where we can have impact. You will need to demonstrate creativity and flexibility in finding and brokering solutions, and making links to other relevant platforms and initiatives, such as GFANZ, Sustainable Markets Initiative, Science Based Targets Initiative and many more.

In addition to being very strong technically, you will be excellent at communicating with people at a senior level and possess strong interpersonal, influencing and project management skills. Effective at solving problems, you will have an eye for detail and be able to demonstrate a commitment to the natural world and WWF’s core mission.

If you are passionate about making our world a better place through your work, we would love to hear from you. Please visit our website via the link, complete the online registration and submit a copy of your up-to-date CV with the Supporting Statement highlighting what makes you a good fit for us.

Every role at WWF is open to applications from all sections of society. We believe in the potential of everyone regardless of; sex, race, religion or belief, ethnic origin, different physical ability, family structure, socio-economics, age, nationality or citizenship, marital, domestic or civil partnership, sexual orientation, gender identity, or any other aspect that makes you, well you.  Here at WWF, we are committed to conscious inclusion that helps cultivate an ethos of belonging, connection and shared purpose.  We believe that the more diverse we are the better we become; this brings us together and empowers us to develop, engage and inspire; and critically to help build a future where people can live in harmony with nature.

Our policies and benefits reflect the importance of people being able to have a good work-life balance and being able to bring their ‘full self’ to work.

Our world needs you like never before. We are the first generation to know we are destroying the world and we could be the last that can do anything about it. We are looking for people who are passionate about making it politically, socially and economically unacceptable to destroy our planet’s natural resources. We need you to join us in the fight for our world.

Company

Best known as the world’s leading conservation body, we’ve seen first-hand how wildlife, the environment and human activity are all interlinked.

That’s why our passion for safeguarding the natural world has to be backed up by other environmental action – tackling the global threat of climate change (through our big global campaigns like Earth Hour) and helping people to change the way they live to ease pressure on natural resources.

WWF is at the heart of global activities in all these areas. We have teams of highly skilled professionals working with governments, businesses and communities here in the UK and around the world.
