About the role
A social housing provider with a focus on quality homes and excellent care is hiring for a Maintenance Assistant to help maintain well managed and safe accommodation for residents in the service's Older Persons Independent Living accommodation. This is a 32 hours a week role based mainly in Croydon with opportunities to work from home as well. This is a temporary contract for 12 weeks with the possibility for extension.


As the Maintenance Assistant, you will be responsible for a patch of sites across Croydon, Sutton, Bromley, and Orpington that you will visit to conduct building/fire checks and report repair needs, as well as assess the welfare of residents in order to identify and report those who are at risk or need additional support. On occasion, you may be needed to support other schemes outside of your given patch but still in the same area to provide cover and meet residents' needs.

On 1 week in 8, you will also be part of an on-Call rota our of hours, starting 5pm Friday and ending 9am the following Friday, including evenings and the weekend. 8 weeks' notice will be given on the rota. Dealing with calls on this rota may involve phone support or visiting schemes covering for the older persons schemes, and extra remuneration is given for this.

You will have the following skills and experience:

  • Experience of administration, reporting and recording procedures
  • Previous Housing Services and/or Health & Safety experience a bonus
  • This is a customer facing role, therefore customer service skills are key
  • Ability to use your own initiative and deal confidently with difficult resident situations
  • Resilience and flexibility
  • Demonstrable team player
  • Good communication, literacy, and numeracy
  • Good understanding of professional boundaries
  • Basic DBS check or willingness to complete one
  • Driving licence with access to own vehicle and business insurance
