Job Details

Research Manager (Food Business EU)

Our client is now looking for a skilled farm animal welfare scientist to join their Food Business team. The Research Manager (Europe) Food Business will contribute to the further development and ongoing management of their technical resources, advisory service to the European food industry, and scientific network on farm animal welfare issues and solutions, which underpin the credibility of their programme. The role will also provide technical support and knowledge transfer within their food business team, the wider organization and externally to corporate partners and wider stakeholder groups.

Research Manager Requirements:

The right candidate will have a proven scientific background, good practical knowledge of farm animal welfare, and a commercial awareness of livestock production. You will also need to be able to condense large volumes of scientific evidence into succinct summaries and cases of support for the welfare change they ask. The role will require developing and delivering multiple workflows to deadline, with a strong problem solving ‘can do’ attitude. Cross-species knowledge, ideally with a focus on poultry and pigs, is required.

About Our Client:

Our client is the leading international farm animal welfare charity, campaigning to improve the lives of millions of farm animals through advocacy, lobbying for legislative change, and positive engagement with the global food industry. Their established international Food Business programme aims to raise baseline standards for farm animals by securing commitments, ensuring compliance and facilitating implementation of higher welfare policies and practices. In addition, they aim to drive corporate meat reduction strategies and targets in line with planetary health requirements, via their newly launched Rethinking Food workstream.

Our work is based on scientific evidence and best practice and as such they are recognised as the credible partner on farm animal welfare to the major food retailers, food service companies, manufacturers and producers.

Our client's HQ is located in bright, modern offices; just 2 minutes’ walk from Godalming mainline station (45 minutes from London Waterloo). Regular international travel, mainly in Europe but occasionally outside Europe as well, will be required.

Our client is absolutely committed to providing equal opportunities for everyone regardless of their background. They value diversity and lived experience, and acknowledge the underrepresentation of people from certain backgrounds, both within their organisation and across the sector. They welcome applications from underrepresented groups, whether these be of ethnicity, gender, identity, religion, physical ability, sexual orientation or other.

Please note that the remuneration quoted is for a UK based employee. This may be adjusted for other European countries as appropriate and in line with their country office benchmarking.

Location: Ideally based in the UK but other locations possible (Netherlands, Italy, Germany, Belgium (preferably Brussels) or Poland).

Contract Type: Permanent
Hours: Full Time, 37 per week
Salary: £30,000 to £35,000 UK based salary (dependent upon experience)

Closing: Friday, 31st December 2021. They would like applications as soon as possible as these will be reviewed regularly and interviews may take place on a rolling programme.

Please complete the online application form and upload your CV and covering letter outlining how you meet the person specification detailed in the Job Description.

No Agencies please.

You may have experience of the following: Research Manager, Policy Manager, PhD, Fish Welfare, Policy and Research, Animal Welfare, Lobbying, Farming, NGO, Research, Food Research, Food Business Engagement, etc.

Ref: 104 751
