Volunteering Officer
Charing Cross Hospital, London

About Us

We're Imperial Health Charity, an organisation that helps our hospitals do more through grants, arts, volunteering and fundraising. We support the five hospitals of Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust: Charing Cross, Hammersmith, Queen Charlotte’s & Chelsea, St Mary’s and the Western Eye.

In response to the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020, we successfully managed an emergency response at our hospitals, engaging over 580 crisis response volunteers (most of whom we recruited during the pandemic).

Since then, and as the pandemic has calmed and then intensified again, we have been working to restart and rebuild our volunteering programme to align with new ways of working and the new realities of our health service.

As such, we’re looking for a Volunteering Officer to join our team on a permanent, full-time basis at our Charing Cross Hospital site.

Your Benefits

- Salary of £27,582 - £30,486, starting on £27,582
- 25 days’ holiday (increasing with service) plus Bank Holidays
- An extra day’s holiday to be taken one week either side of your birthday
- Access to gym discounts
- Support towards healthcare costs, including eye tests and dental, and support with mental health through counselling
- Interest-free season ticket loan
- Pension (with employer contributions of 10%)
- Life insurance
- Enhanced maternity, paternity and adoption leave, above statutory requirements
- Sick and compassionate leave above statutory requirements
- High street and online discounts through a Blue Light Card

If you have excellent administration experience and are passionate about volunteering, this is a fantastic opportunity to make a real, positive impact on our volunteering programme.

Volunteering is an integral part of the service we provide for our partner NHS Trust and you’ll have the chance to shape our volunteers’ experience and success as part of a dedicated team.

So, if you’re ready to make a positive difference as part of our ambitious charity, this is the role for you.

The Role

As our Volunteering Officer, you’ll ensure our volunteers enjoy a fantastic experience right the way through their volunteer journey and feel valued for their contribution at our Charing Cross Hospital site.

Our volunteers form a vital part of our fabric and play a key role in helping us continue to provide a high-quality experience for patients, staff and visitors. You’ll help attract and recruit new individuals to grow our volunteering community including helping with enquiries for our Youth Volunteering Programme for 16 to 21-year-olds.

Providing exceptional administrative support to the Volunteering Team, you’ll ensure everything is well organised and co-ordinated and everyone who engages with us receives fantastic service.

Additionally, you’ll develop excellent relationships with hospital staff, volunteers and our local community, building strong links and promoting our brilliant volunteering opportunities.

About You

To join us as our Volunteering Officer, you will need:

- Excellent administrative skills
- Experience in managing and planning events including bookings, venue logistics and event resources
- Some knowledge and experience of project management
- Experience in, and confidence in, presenting or delivering training to a variety of audiences
- The ability to work well with volunteers based on current sector best practice, including emerging trends and legal implications
- The ability to write well for a range of audiences using a variety of methods
- The ability to influence people to embrace change and new ways of working
- Strong IT skills

The following experience would be great but if you are willing to learn don’t let not having it put you off applying:

- Knowledge of best practice in volunteer management

This position is full-time working 35 hours per week.

An enhanced DBS check will be required for this role.

Other organisations may call this role Volunteer Co-ordinator, Volunteer Programme Officer, Volunteer Administrator, Volunteer Support Administrator, or Administrator.
