OVERVIEW

Hours: 36.5 hours per week

Location: A combination of office (Birmingham) and remote home working (during the current pandemic). Some occasional UK travel will be required.

Introduction to the role and department

As Funding Development Officer, you will take a lead role in identifying opportunities for funding, working with managers and directors to develop project proposals in line with TAWS’ strategic aims, mission and values. You will be responsible for drafting and coordinating funding applications related to health and wellbeing, working with the wider team to produce high quality proposals and managing a funding pipeline. You will also work with partners and stakeholders to co-produce joint funding applications and develop good relationships with relevant funders.

This role, based in the Funding & Strategy team, will support development across a number of areas including within health, wellbeing and activity, as well as programme areas aimed at tackling inequalities.

MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES

1.    Work with managers and Directors to scope, develop and sustain projects in line with our strategic aims and objectives

2.    Identify relevant opportunities for funding and take a leading role in shaping and developing new projects including developing budgets in line with resource requirements

3.    Work across Directorates such as Healthy Communities, Data and Insight and Active Communities to ensure collaborative approach to funding and business development is achieved 

4.    Produce high quality funding bids including writing and editing copy and support the team to draft funding applications

5.    Ensure that deadlines are met and that submissions are managed in a timely way

6.    Play a leading role in supporting the development of the funding function, including supporting the wider organisation to develop fundraising skills

7.    Support the Head of Funding and Strategy to embed clear processes within the team, including managing and monitoring the funding pipeline

8.    Develop strong working relationships with key stakeholders (internal and external) including coproducing funding bids with partners

9.    Keep abreast of new and emergent thinking across wellbeing, community development and tackling inequalities

10. Develop written materials that raise the profile of the organisation and the services we deliver for a range of audiences and to different stakeholders

11. Support the teams to develop materials and information outlining good practice in service delivery

12. Produce content that supports funding applications and business development such as case studies, stories, good practice information

13. Ensure that key info relevant to bud submissions is up to date and of a high quality (i.e. service delivery information, service and team information, key content relevant to bids and applications)

14. Carry out all duties as may be reasonably assigned from time to time and within the level of this job description

KNOWLEDGE & SKILLS

1.   Experience of public sector commissioning / tendering for contracts (e.g., health, social care, employment, research)

2.   Experience of engaging with stakeholders (internally and externally) – strong upward management skills and ability to influence senior leaders

3.   Experience of working with funders/commissioners

4.   Strong written communication skills and excellent attention to detail

5.   Experience of responding to grant funding opportunities, including trusts and foundations

6.   Entrepreneurial approach and experience of project management within a complex and changing environment

7.   Highly organised with the ability to manage and prioritise own workload and comfortable juggling multiple projects

8.   Understanding of health landscape desirable

9.   Experience of working in health (NHS, primary/secondary care, voluntary sector, Public Health or Social Care) desirable

10. Passion for tackling inequality and promoting community wellbeing – and a keen understanding of the social and political landscape we operate in
