Communications Lead

London (with Hybrid working)

About Us

PEAS (Promoting Equality in African Schools) believe in a world where all children enjoy an education that unlocks their full potential. To achieve that, our mission is to expand access to sustainably delivered, quality secondary education across Africa.

We have a network of 32 schools across Uganda and Zambia educating over 14,000 marginalised students and work together with governments to roll out the PEAS approach in government schools to scale our impact.

We have strong external evidence to support our impact, happy funding partners and an excellent reputation within the international education sector. We are proud of our achievements to date, but we know we can achieve even more and in our next strategic period, we aim to do just that.

We are now looking for a part-time Communications Lead working 21 hours a week to join our team and help us make our ambition a reality.

The Opportunity

As a Communications Lead, you will be responsible for communicating information about PEAS to existing and potential donors, working towards building our reputation as the go-to organisation and the global thought leader for delivering quality secondary education in challenging environments.

Additionally, you will support the production of a bank of communications materials that can attract and retain our funding partners, simplifying and reframing complex technical documents for internal and external audiences.

Working closely with the Partnerships Officer, you will develop and deliver a social media strategy and manage our website, ensuring it remains relevant and engaging.

Our Ideal Candidate

No matter the role, we are looking for people who believe in what we do and how we do it; you will be passionate about transforming lives through education and aligned to our values.

However, to be considered as a Communications Lead, you will also need:

- At least five years’ experience in communications within the not-for-profit sector

- An understanding of current international development issues and/or experience working in Uganda, Zambia or sub-Saharan Africa

- Proficiency in MS Office and experience using communications platforms as well as some design and video editing software

- Strong communication and organisational skills

- Proficiency in creatively condensing complex information into external-facing communications

- An accurate and flexible approach

- The ability to lead projects both in a team and individually

Benefits

- Salary of £36,000 - £40,500 (pro rata) DOE

- 28 days’ annual leave + Bank Holidays

- Matched contributory based pension of up to 6%

- Access to an Employee Assistant Programme

- Flexible working

- International travel

If you are a communications professional, this is a fantastic opportunity to join a small and friendly team who are all encouraging, driven and committed to supporting our worthy and crucial cause.

Through your work, you will help us to conquer the barriers most marginalised children in Africa face in accessing education, such as their gender or the degree of their poverty.

Along with a generous benefits package, you will discover a small and friendly work environment where you will receive ongoing support to enable you to complete your best work.

The closing date for applications is Monday 5th December 2021.

We will review and shortlist applications on a rolling basis and may close the application process sooner than the date specified should we receive a high number of suitable candidates. We’d encourage all applicants not to wait until the closing date to apply.

PEAS is highly committed to keeping children safe from harm and preventing corruption. We therefore take our responsibility to promote safe recruitment practices very seriously, including conducting appropriate reference and background checks. We also operate a zero-tolerance approach to any PEAS employees who breach our Safeguarding and Anti-Corruption Policies, which all employees are required to sign upon induction.

Other organisations may call this role Charity Communications Manager, Fundraising Communications Supervisor, Fundraising Communications Lead, Communications Team Leader, Communications Manager or Communications Strategy Leader.

Please note, this role is part-time and involves working 21 hours per week.
