Press Officer

REQ000252

Woking, Surrey GU21 4LL

This is a great opportunity to develop your news and media skills as part of a busy media team with the world’s leading conservation body.  As a Press Officer for the WWF UK, we want you to provide an agile media capability that can respond to emerging issues and opportunities and help put our core issues on the political agenda as well as build a movement of people to support our cause and ensure change.

As a member of our media team, you will source and gather all the elements needed for impactful media stories in line with our strategy, and confidently pitch to media outlets. You will support the day to day running of the press office by drafting messaging, writing press releases, and finding and developing other media assets. You will act as a first port of call for media enquiries, ensuring they are handled quickly and directed to the right person as needed too. We will also look to you to stay in touch with the media landscape and monitor the daily media cycle on environmental issues. Importantly, you will oversee and maintain our media evaluation system and regular reporting.

For this role, you will need experience of working in a fast-moving PR agency, press office or newsroom. You will understand what makes a story interesting to a journalist and a track record of developing and selling-in stories to UK media. Comfortable writing high quality content, you will possess excellent communication skills and the confidence to develop relationships with journalists.

A self-starter, with flexible and positive working attitude, you will excel at building internal relationships and managing deadlines. Good at prioritising, you will have good planning skills, a strong understanding of the UK media landscape and a passion for nature and the environment. You will also have a flexible approach and able to work out-of-hours as duty press officer on call on a rota basis with the rest of the media team.

Every role at WWF is open to applications from all sections of society. We believe in the potential of everyone regardless of; sex, race, religion or belief, ethnic origin, different physical ability, family structure, socio-economics, age, nationality or citizenship, marital, domestic or civil partnership, sexual orientation, gender identity, or any other aspect that makes you, well you.  Here at WWF, we are committed to conscious inclusion that helps cultivate an ethos of belonging, connection and shared purpose.  We believe that the more diverse we are the better we become; this brings us together and empowers us to develop, engage and inspire; and critically to help build a future where people can live in harmony with nature.

Our policies and benefits reflect the importance of people being able to have a good work-life balance and being able to bring their ‘full self’ to work.

Our world needs you like never before. We are the first generation to know we are destroying the world and we could be the last that can do anything about it. We are looking for people who are passionate about making it politically, socially and economically unacceptable to destroy our planet’s natural resources. We need you to join us in the fight for our world.

Company

Best known as the world’s leading conservation body, we’ve seen first-hand how wildlife, the environment and human activity are all interlinked.

That’s why our passion for safeguarding the natural world has to be backed up by other environmental action – tackling the global threat of climate change (through our big global campaigns like Earth Hour) and helping people to change the way they live to ease pressure on natural resources.

WWF is at the heart of global activities in all these areas. We have teams of highly skilled professionals working with governments, businesses and communities here in the UK and around the world.
